Not ideal for our defense

This is why I think Eric Washington is not a good defensive coordinator. You can point to Luke, TD, Pep, KK, Poe, Addison, Shaq, and so on. It's all of them and when everyone who normally are good suck together. Then it's the coordinator.

I wonder if there is a breakdown of this based on runs vs. pass plays. Just on eyeballing the games, I'm betting that we're giving up more yardage in the basic package to rushing plays.

Be interested to know what they consider our "base" defense. We've played a lot more 4-3 this season then we usually do, but with Davis back we'll probably going back to a lot of the 4-2-5 (also known as the 46 defense) we've seen throughout most of this run.

Anyway, this early in the season the sample size is so small that 1 or 2 plays can skew things against you, especially in our case where whatever "base" defense they picked was used for only around half of those snaps.

Before training camp 2018?  Ha.  This D hasn’t been elite since the Ray Rice video came out and the Panthers took it up the poop shoot without lube by giving up 37 and 38 points to the Steelers and Ravens in consecutive weeks in 2014...without a player that had earned the FRANCHISE TAG by virtue of his on field and locker room presence.

Quality post.  Bring back the Kraken.

Of course, but “brass balls” has only been in charge a few months.

He was employed by another NFL team. At that point the question was, would this be a great football decision to reunite the Kraken with Eric Washington? Yes. Would the locker room take him back? TD said yes.

The FO was on some social political crap.

I said the exact same thing in off season on here but i was told the D line would be fine, led league in sacks last year. Blah blah blah nothing to worry about.

Unless they are a QB any time a players age starts with 3 you need to start looking to replace them. Now some exceptional players can continue, and a few positions are exceptions to this rule becuase 10 years of NFL wear and tear isn’t as much.

But pretty much and we have 3 players that are 35 plus on the defense alone at key positions.

this was going to happen eventually.

Go back to writing your fanboy Greg Hardy homoerotica @Nails . Not everyone hold the hots for him like you do, I’m sure he appreciates it tho! Probably has “Love you Nails” tattoo’d on his chest with a heart!

Kraken is 30 with the tread of a 25 year old by the way.

I think Peppers is done. I think Addison is a decent player but he hit his high point already and will now age down. KK had a great year to get paid but has been inconsistent otherwise. Butler is a bust. Obada is in a similar boat to Addison, meaning he has promise and drive but not a very high ceiling when you consider the time it’ll take him to grow and his age by the time he gets there. Poe is ok but isn’t a d-line centerpiece.

the D-line just isn’t as great as they get credit for. We haven’t really developed much talent there at all in years. It’s all reputation. What talent was there is aging and is being coached by someone not that great and the DC is new and is struggling.

we really need a marquee pass rusher DE to change this team.

    Trashes Pep-check

    Trashes Addison-check

    Trashes Obada-check

    Trashes Butler-check

    Trashes coaches-check

Then claims that one marquee DE would change this team. Fans, you just gots to love em.

No a 4-6 is not what we run at all and it isn't a 4-2-5. What you are describing is a nickel defense where one of the linebackers is substituted for another defensive back.

The 4-6 defense is actually where up to 8 players are routinely in the box and you have a base 4-3-4 but you put the linebackers and strong safety within 2 or 3 yards of the line. The 4-6 defense name came from Doug Plank who wore that jersey number.

Here is a good discussion about it.
