Fox: Delhomme hasn't changed

Mr. Scot

For the most part I agree with him.

I would too except for the part about Delhommes performance. Our Lack of a real WR at #2 has really hurt us. I worry about the Bills game because Delhomme agreed with Smith and that just tells me he is gonna try to force more balls to him. Jakes a great guy and he and Smith have a good relationship but really its the other guys time to step up and make plays not Smiths. If they do that then Smith will get his shots.

We'll see what his story is when we're officially eliminated from the playoff hunt around week 11 or 12 and Delhomme is on track to set the NFL record for INTs.

I wonder how his "Oh, everything is fine" thing will sound then.

When did he say that everything is fine? He said that everybody started bad this year, including himself, and that they all need to get better. Why is that so horrible?

Agree. I don't always agree everything, but part of that is something I'm standing behind.

My problem is that this staff doesn't put Jake in situations where he can succeed. If you see a guy struggling to pass the ball, what is the solution? Shotgun? Shorter routes? 3-step drops?

No, our solution is to throw deep to a double covered Muhsin Muhammad, or attempt to throw it as high as you can to Steve Smith in an attempt to create some kind of jump ball situation that has worked in the past.

It's frustrating to watch. That kind of play can beat bad teams, but rarely will succeed against good teams. They need to figure out a way to pass out of the backfield, put Smith in motion to free him up and create defensive confusion. Running their regular offense as we know it against good teams will only result in what we've seen from Delhomme since the Oakland game in '08.

Well said. I wish we has McCoy back, 'cause I think he is the better QB coach than what we has right now.

So Fox doesn't want to put the blame on Delhomme for the Philly game, saying the whole team played poorly and he coached poorly.

Then what's his excuse for the Arizona playoff game ?? Was that a "the whole team played poorly" excuse too. Cuz if it is, that's bullsh*t.

Did you watch the Philly game? Delhomme was getting killed because he had no blocking. The RB's were getting killed because they had no blocking. The two other QB's that played that day were getting killed because they had no blocking. Hell, McCown even got knocked out for the year after dropping back and getting crunched like a bug in about 2 seconds. Fox is absolutely right that it wasn't just Jake.

You're absolutely right that he had no blocking. The offensive line was absolutely terrible and didn't give him enough time in the pocket.

That said, he still made terrible decisions under pressure (Take a sack instead of throwing it into coverage... throw it away instead of forcing it into coverage...etc) and is still unable to hold onto the football when he's sacked.

Fox never publicly calls out his guys. That's not enough for the negative people in this thread. But he's gotten a lot more wins than they have, and will likely be in a position to get a lot more after this year is long gone.

That's a trait of a good coach. Publicly calling a guy out never works. Praise in public criticize in private. To do it any other way will loose a team in a heartbeat. There are always positives to be seen if you look hard enough. Even in a loss. Likewise there are always negatives to be seen even in a win. Personally I prefer to search for the positives.

Yeah the pass D was stellar that game.

No, I'm agreeing with Fox there. The whole team did play poorly and so did Jake.

But that wasn't the case in the Arizona game. That's all I'm saying.
