Fox: Delhomme hasn't changed

My problem is that this staff doesn't put Jake in situations where he can succeed. If you see a guy struggling to pass the ball, what is the solution? Shotgun? Shorter routes? 3-step drops?

No, our solution is to throw deep to a double covered Muhsin Muhammad, or attempt to throw it as high as you can to Steve Smith in an attempt to create some kind of jump ball situation that has worked in the past.

It's frustrating to watch. That kind of play can beat bad teams, but rarely will succeed against good teams. They need to figure out a way to pass out of the backfield, put Smith in motion to free him up and create defensive confusion. Running their regular offense as we know it against good teams will only result in what we've seen from Delhomme since the Oakland game in '08.

the way I read it was Fox is saying Jake has been the same guy all season (this season). Which I would agree with. There is no way you can compare the old loveable Good/Bad Jake with this new guy....Good/Bad/and the new Worst QB in the World Jake.

How do you get that from this

When asked if Delhomme is doing anything different than in the past, Fox replied, “Probably no different than any other year.

You hit the nail on the head. Jake isn't the problem so much as a failing to generate a gameplan which maximizes his success and allows the offense to capitalize on what the defense is giving them.

We are not doing a good enough job of analyzing the defense and gameplanning initially. Then as each series unfolds we need to analyze what they are actually doing and make adjustments. Finally we need to analyze what we are doing and make sure we aren't giving them keys and being too predictable in order to make it easy for them to figure us out.

Delhomme can be very effective with a good gameplan. If as people on here complain his arm strength isn't there to throw 40 yards downfield on a rope, treat him like Chad Pennington and throw 10 to 20 yard stuff. Use misdirection and keep the team off balance.

Even great quarterbacks suffer with poor gameplanning. Average quarterbacks are even worse unless the gameplan plays to their strengths.

Bingo.

And sad to see that after all this time, we're still slow to adjust.

Jake has issues for certain, but as has been pointed out he's not the whole problem.

We've seen it some on the field, but I'm really starting to wonder how much frustration there is with Davidson that we don't see. Prior to this year I thought he was ready to break out and become a top notch OC. Since Arizona though, not so much.

Maybe Davidson is the one suffering from shellshock after last year's playoff disaster.

When thinking about what could be bothering Jake so much I wonder how much an effect that Mike McCoy leaving had on him. That's honestly the only thing that has changed from this year. I wonder if some of the "new drills" this Scherer guy has been doing have actually set Delhomme back. Not that a 34 year old QB should be set back by drills but maybe Jake didn't prepare the way McCoy had him get ready for the season and it has effected him. Maybe McCoy saw things during the game that helped Jake that Scherer doesn't see. This is far fetched I know but its the only thing I can think of that is different about this year.

it's the whole caboodle. oline can't give jake the minutes he needs to find an open smith or moose because the defense knows what plays are going to be passing plays and drops extra people back into coverage plus they know exactly what plays smith is going to be thrown to because the offense is really predictable. you have a QB who says he knows that it hasn't worked getting the ball to moose on those deep routes but they are going to keep trying anyway. you have an offense that really has nothing up it's sleeve. it is predictable and it has at it's center a QB who has lost his confidence and a stud WR who doesn't feel like he is part of the team anymore.

the QB situation isn't any better than it was in '07 when jake was out. jake = david carr at this point.

but, like has been said, he isn't the only problem.
