He has no missed tackles, no dropped ints, hasn't been beat deep yet people are calling him a bad player. Smh Luke and the rest of the LBs are looking like rookies from d2 schools yet silence.

Sure looked like he was way out of position on Davis' TD catch. One play does not a season make but your hyperbole about that and the lack of griping about the rest of the defense, of which there has been more than plenty, is silly.

Kuechly more out of position. He should have followed Davis.

Anyway, besides that play what other error did Reid make?

yeah he did bite on the TD to vernon davis because smith looked him off to the right. that's why quarterbacks do that. because it works. it's not unique to reid, any decent safety would have followed the quaterback's eyes there. playing the qb's eyes is exactly what you're supposed to do in a zone, it just happened that smith used it to his advantage there.

Looks like a Cover 3 so no, Luke wasn't supposed to run with Davis, and espexially not since Reid straight-up said it was his fault.

Panthers safety Eric Reid bit on a pump fake by Washington quarterback Alex Smith in the first quarter, allowing Vernon Davis to run down the seam for an easy 22-yard touchdown catch. “Totally my fault,” Reid said of the TD after the game.

He also took some pretty bad angles last week.

My goal though isn't to tear Reid down, as I hope he shines and makes the defense better, but more to point out that your assertion of perfection and him being singled out here as the only one failing among all the defenders is incorrect.

"Took some bad angles" - what were the plays?

A Beckham slant and a Shepherd slant that would have gone to the house if the CB didn’t make the tackle. He was way, way out of position on both as the single high.

Fortunately neither were an issue. He almost got busted on another Beckham slant when OBJ spun out of his tackle easily but tripped up so while he did his job his was perilously close to being a disaster.

Your initial assertion is that he's been flawless and that no other defenders are getting flak, which have both been proven false. Keep on moving those goalposts.

Said LBs, not defenders.

I'll give you that td. Besides that no errors by Reid.

I'm talking about yesterday's game.

This is why players who sit around aren't worth signing. Jesus, when Leveon Bell does come back, he will probably be garbage. I know it's partly not Reid's fault that no one signed him, but you gotta make sure you're still up to par. In fairness, it's a new system and he literally is still better than what we had.

He's gotten beaten as much as Collin Jones at this point. Something I didn't expect to happen. Maybe it will improve but Safety is Safety and its not really a complex position.
