The 1st Down Was Reviewed

There would have probably been very little difference in the outcome if it was called differently.  It was clearly close enough for measurement which would have been a defacto time out for us anyways.  They ran the clock and basically said close enough on the first down which was probably a fair thing for the officials to do in the situation.  The officials probably would have granted a measurement if the Giants asked for it, but it probably didn't seem smart from their end at that time.

The officials definitely sucked in this game, but I don't think they screwed up this particular play.

If it's under 2 minutes, teams cannot ask for a review. It has to come form the powers that be

Asking for a measurement and a review are different things.  Within reason, refs typically grant requests for measurement.

Yeah the whining all over the interwebz from NY fans on this play in particular has been heavy. I agree...the kick is the same regardless.

It was close, but if they stopped to review that would’ve given us more time anyways which would’ve been worse for the Giants than giving us the 1st. And I do think it was a 1st anyways. Stupid ass play to run it on 3rd in that situation, can’t believe we pulled it out.

The Giants can try to spin this anyway they want but there is no case that provides them with a victory.

So let’s say McCaffrey doesn’t get the first. There is still 28 seconds left on the clock, more than enough time to trot Gano out for the field goal.

Let’s say they stop to measure and it’s short, we still have more than enough time to get Gano on the field.

The issue is with the broadcast; they had it listed as fourth down both in the stadium and on the broadcast when Cam spiked the ball from what I hear.

Everyone is saying that the game should have been over when in reality if it was fourth down the Panthers would have rushed Gano on to the field.

Whether he got the first down or not there was still enough time to get Gano on the field  and we all know the result from there. If it was truly fourth down Cam wouldn’t have spiked the ball as he is obviously relayed the down by the officials. The individuals that think that was some type of “screw job” are off there rockers, it was just a near “choke job”.

Could have but it would have stopped the clock. Tough spot for them to be in.

Bingo. If you’re in their position you gotta play the odds and think the kicker is going to miss a 62 yarder.

A lot of their fans are crying about the officiating but I still want to know why they picked up the defensive holding flag that would have more than likely iced the game for us.
