Through 1/4 of the season what do we think we know about this team?

Eric Washington is very bad. Has no situational awareness and his playcalls just don't make any sense. Really worried about him and our defense moving forward. We're allowing an average of 28 PPG the last 3 games, which would put us 6th worst in the league for a supposed "elite" defense. Not to mention we only have 9 sacks on the year (tied with Saints and 49ers at 23rd). Our front 7 is supposed to be our strength.

Our offense is better than anticipated this early. We've had 3 straight games of 30+ points and Cam is having his best start to a year. If we can have a bad offensive day like yesterday and still score 33, just wait until we get Olsen back and start rolling.

Overall, 3-1 is where I predicted us to be at through the first quarter of the season. We play @Was, @Phi, Bal, and Tampa our next 4 games. We can only afford to lose ONE of those games.

Offense:

Still finding it's way but a lot of potential here. We finally have the tools to be a great offense, but in my opinion questionable play calling and personnel selection are setting us back. I'm beating a dead-horse here, but we need to tailor the offense to the type of weapons we have. We really have weapons now. No excuse. I don't remember any go routes or legit deep routes to WR not names Funchess or Smith. We need the speedsters in there even when they are not getting touches. It creates mismatches and possibilities.

Even if these deep routes don't get caught, we gotta throw 4-5 per game to keep defenses honest. It also gets them to back off and sets up the run and the medium game. Heck, you may even get a PI flag or two. Just lining up one of the fast guys and having them on a go route opens possibilities. It takes away a corner and possibly a safety out of the middle of the field, which we can exploit. This is just an example, but I feel like we finally have the weapons and a legit OC, but we're still messing around on

Defense:

Huge letdown so far. Only pleasant surprises are the corner backs for me. Even our LB crew has looked suspect against the run. The front 4 has been atrocious except for psrt of the Dallas game and the Obada show against Cincy. This unit for me has been a letdown. We really need to clean this up. Hopefully TD's return will fix some stuff. I am sure Reid will get better as he gets into better shape, but I feel like we need to give Gaulden more time and see what he can do. Competition sharpens the blade anyway.

I'm not convinced we're as good as we think we are.

Oh, and Torrey Smith should not be starting.

Damn where is that guy at? Wow, he should have retired after the last Superbowl and lived out with notoriety.

We know that we are 3-1 and still working through who we are as a team. Remember the game we almost lost during the super bowl season, where we almost lost to the saints with a backup QB? We certainly did not look like a playoff team, much less like a Super Bowl team. Have faith, we have a chance against any team in the league right now which is more than many teams can say. We are competitive and have a real shot at finally having back to back winning seasons and making a playoff run, and thats all you can really ask for. You have to be in it to win it my friends. The beer is half full, keep pounding!

Our record is right where I thought it was going to be. We know what we have with CMC & Cam. We don't know, yet, what TD's return is going to mean to this defense. I think we will see a big increase in the use of our rookies going forward.

I know I am excited heading into the next 3/4 of the season.

Just really hard to tell yet with injuries and suspensions. Getting Davis back will be huge and when Reid gets up to speed and he clearly wasn't with the giants it should be a different defense.

On offense we are seeing flashes from DJ and Samuel is getting involved as well. I hope to see their roles increase while Smiths and Wrights decrease. Ian Thomas is another guy who flashes but is still young. Passing game could go from rough to legit later in the season.

The Giants kinda laid the ground work for how you beat us. Contain McCaffrey and force us to win in the air. Good teams will have the defense to force us into that situation and we have to respond.

Does that take our bye into account? Since we've played 1 less game have to look at sacks/game, not just the total.

I haven't had a chance to look at the stats though... Busy week for me.
