Ron on the Hot Seat

Recommended Posts

I think that whenever there's a new owner, everyone is under evaluation. Tepper has been involved in the NFL for a long time. That means he has NFL contacts and I'm sure he's been thinking about owning his own team for years. I'm sure he has a list of people in mind if he sees a need to make changes at a variety of roles.

It could be true. He's coaching like he's on the hot seat. If he wasn't would he have been pissed off after the win yesterday?

Well he's being evaluated for sure, that goes without saying whenever a new boss comes to town all existing staff are being evaluated.

No new owner is going to keep a losing head coach especially one he didn't hire. I don't think Rivera's results so far this season merit a hot seat designation though. Teams that fire winning coaches normally don't end like Gruden and Tampa bay did in 2002 alot of times you have to go through Chip Kelly before you can find your Doug Pederson.

Jeremy Igo is a photographer that had the foresight to create this site back in the early '00s when there was no other good option for Panthers fans. He was also convinced that we were going to trade John Fox to the Giants for a linebacker and a draft pick (he actually said this, I don't forget this) and knows absolutely nothing more than anyone else does on this site. I think the one source he ever had was Jon Beason and Beason hasn't played for this team in like 6 years.

By the way, that doesn't mean I think Ron did a good job yesterday. It was one of his worst coaching jobs he's EVER done and he should be thanking Graham Gano every chance he gets this week. I don't understand how it's Year 8 for Rivera and he's still just as bad as he was in Year 2 with timeouts, clock management, and when to throw the challenge flag. The way the ends of both of the halves ended yesterday were just complete WTFs. I think he needs to hire someone who specifically can do just those 3 things: timeouts, clock management, and challenges.

Nah.  Rivera is a moron when it comes to clock management, but he makes up for it with scheme and identifying quality staff.

So, a defensive-minded head coach, running a defense featuring the best MLB in the league, getting gashed repeatedly?  That scheme?

Had to look him up but we can’t do better than that?

Campbell is a hot name right now. He's a Bill Parcells protege and impresses everyone he talks to with both his knowledge and his demeanor (a lot like Steve Wilks in that regard).

There would definitely be other candidates, of course.. But I've seen more than one analyst rave about Campbell this past offseason.

On the general topic though, one point I think is worth mentioning...

I don't know if Rivera will be fired, but if he were to be, the head coaching search process would be significantly different from prior years. Richardson insisted on defensive coordinators and completely swore off retread coaches after the George Seifert disaster.

I'm not sure if Tepper will look at retreads because he comes from the Steeler point of view and they don't go that route either. I do, however, feel comfortable that future head coaching interviews will no longer be limited to defensive coaches. The "offensive coaches need not apply" sign has been taken down

If the team implodes from this point on, then very possible this is true. If they make the playoffs and actually make some noise, then all bets are off. I do think that if they don't make the Superbowl and win it within the next couple of years, then he will clean house.

From what I have seen so far this season, this is not a team that can make the SB and win it this year.

This is a team that can make it to the Superb Owl. Find a pass rush and we should be able to compete with any other team, including the Rams, on any given Sunday.

You forget the part where we were purposefully testing this site's influence and how quickly that rumor made the radio. It took less than an hour. You can ask the other mods of the time. We haven't started a false rumor sense.

Twas the infancy of the Huddle, and twas glorious.

What I find really ironic about that memory now is who you had rumored as his replacement.

    • I have really enjoyed laughing at the Panthers beating the Chiefs memes.  I mean, it's been in good fun.  Bye week is a great time to be completely unreasonable. The Chiefs played pretty poorly against the Bills.  This is a heck of a get right game for them.  I have a feeling they are going to come out hard against a weaker team.  I think the D can be feisty, but will probably get smoked.  On O...  Yeah...  This is not going to look great. This team is 9-1, coached by an all timer, has a generational QB, and a propensity to find ways to win.  It's going to be ugly.   As far as trotting out Andy, does that help Bryce develop?  Does that help the team develop?  It's not about winning at this point (unless by some miracle/any-given-Sunday we win, then things get interesting).
