Defense needs to get right quick or else I’d bet Rivera truly does end up on the hot seat. Secondly someone really should lose their job over that 3rd and 1 running call with no timeouts and 30 seconds remaining. Second most retarded play call of the day only to the Cowboys punting on 4th and 1 in overtime

Was Bill Walsh just a better coach than all of his peers or did he benefit from having hall of fame talent like Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Charles Haley, Ronnie Lott, Steve Young, etc...

Show me a good coach that wins and I'm show you some good players that he coaches.

The cowboys 4th and 1 was a calculated risk.  They wanted to flip the field and give the ball to an injured Watson, who threw a pick just two series prior. They just didn't anticipate Hopkins having the best YAC play of the day maybe season.

I didn't agree with the 3rd and 1 call yesterday either, but that wasn't Rivera.

We've been a top 10 defense every year since he was our coach, and he's had 4 coordinators promoted to HC positions.  His O-line and RB coaches are considered to be among the best in football.

The former English teacher in me is screaming internally at this whole paragraph. 

 

As far as his assessment of Rivera and Tepper. It's a very good possibility. Tepper doesn't strike me as a guy that is okay with being complacent. In Rivera's defense, he us a top ten coach. You don't have the resume he has by not knowing what you're doing. The thing with Rivera is his stubborn ways with vets and lack of urgency when his job isn't on the line. 

 

We've seen this time and time again from Rivera. Bye week hangover performances. It's something that in his first couple of seasons should have been fixed. Tendencies that should have changed, but they have not. 

Im not sure who would replace Rivera to be honest. At this point should he even be replaced with the current success he's had? 

 

Please I don't think there are many candidates out there that can match what Rivera has done. Also if you go ahead and blow this staff up, you'd be wasting Cam's prime years. 

Who knows what the new guy would do with the offense and defense for that matter.

This is a case example of talent (Luke, Cam) overcoming coaching deficiencies and philosophies. And sadly, Rivera's job is once more secured as long as those two continue being the future Hall of Famers they are.

Head coach is significantly more important in winning games than any individual players.

If you want to get rid of him, then you better have at least 3 coaches you truly believe would be an upgrade to hire. Things could get better or worse. 

  I could see it from either side. But one thing is for sure. The players have always bought into him.

Fact is every new owner wants his own people, especially GM and HC. I have definitely heard as much said by people in the know. Rivera needs to have a winning season. A home loss yesterday to a bad team would not have been a good thing for him at all.

Panthers are 3-1 with no Thomas Davis, Greg Olsen, multiple secondary injuries and players signed off the street starting on the O-Line and a new combination of starters every week

Panthers have historically started very slow and gotten better each week. Olsen and Davis come back this week.

Rivera has been going for it on 4th downs like his job is in jeopardy so I wouldn't doubt it. It makes sense why he has been so aggressive this season.
