Told y’all before the season started, this is an average team .  I just looked at the stats and this Swiss cheese defense just gave up 432 yards to the giants.  Wait to see what the Saints do to them.

Seriously Mods why is this debbie downer all day troll creep allowed to post here.. Please check his history he has never posted a positive thing about this team.. 1,532 post have been nothing but negative poo.  Is this a fan site or troll lifers site?

This team is built on the front 7 not the secondary.. You can't asked a great secondary to cover more than 5 sec. It won't be great for long.. So asking these guys to do it is stupid.. We need better pass rush or some investments in some exotic blitzes.. Then our secondary will look better..

Couple things: 1.  Pass rush is pure trash. 2.  Ron hired a really nice guy solely because he’s been around a while.

When you’re a defensive minded head coach who got his job based on defense, it doesn’t really matter who the DC is. He’s just executing Ron’s vision, it’s on him.

Completely agree.  So, if Ron can't run a defense, can't run an offense, can't hire decent coaches, can't manage a clock, can't make adjustments and can't put the right players on the field, what exactly CAN he do from a coaching perspective?  He's been riding Cam and Luke's exceptional coattails too damn long.  I can't wait to see him pack his poo.

Another thing to keep in mind is we've been playing guys like Gaulden, Cox Jr., Mayo, etc... more than we'd like early because of injuries. Barkley had two big runs on us on Sunday, but other than those he was held to basically nothing on 13 carries. I'd even wager either a rookie or a guy who'll be riding pine soon was responsible for both big runs.

The defense is fine. We've held good run games in check other than Atlanta and our outside guys can cover. We're not blitzing because quite honestly, the front four needs to be challenged to generate pressure. We will not win in December and January against the elite QBs by blitzing, they will fuging kill us, I don't care how good your schemes are.  Let's see how this defense looks in a couple months with Peppers, Davis and Reid all on the field playing the majority of snaps.

This defense is built around the front seven and getting pressure on the QB. We aren't getting pressure on the QB. This roster isn't built to play coverage.

We are build to stop the run on first and second and then get pressure on 3rd and long.  We aren't built to stop quick passing attacks.

I'm not convinced better personnel on the D-line would make that much of a difference.  Different personnel in the secondary though might help but even then I think some of it is philosophical with our head coach.

Special teams improved. Secondary regressed. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Richard Rodgers.

Too much cushion, playing out of position in the secondary is giving passers open receivers faster than the pass rush can get there.

Somebody that gets it!

Our front four is fearsome so that's why Eli and Brees (later) do the quick slants, two step drops to negate our front four. If the ball is out fast there will appear not to be a pass rush. The pass rush hasn't failed if your opponent has to change the way they play in fear of it.

The Giants decided their offensive strategy with the help of two fresh former insiders. They know Ron will play the odds and give you all the short stuff in favor of OBJ or anybody else getting behind the defense.

It almost worked but Shula and Gettleman couldn't account for the youngsters and Gano's record tying dagger.

The idea behind our defense is that most QBs can't sustain enough drives with short passing to generate a high score. We're trying to take away the deep passes, and limited yac on shorter passes, and stuff the run. How do you know if the Panthers have a SB level defense? When we generate pressure without blitzing, when the zone coverage is tight, when we are causing fumbles and INTs due to the tight zone coverage, and when we stuff the run.

Our present defense is a work in progress. We don't look SB level, and we'll be lucky to make the playoffs unless we make major improvements throughout the season. Atlanta can out muscle and out pass us, and the Saints can spread us out and throw timing routes and screens all over the field. We're going to be in a dogfight all season even with improvements.

Putting Obada on Barkley? TD
