WTF is wrong with our defense

Pay attention to where our secondary is looking on all those completed slants. Eyeing the QB. I don't give a damn what anybody says, you play defense with your eyes and you can't cover what you're not looking at. It's absolutely ridiculous. Every pick we've had has been because somebody was actually looking at the receiver that was intended and played the ball well when it got there.

Tired of watching guys run right by our defenders while they're staring in the backfield.

Bad take. In a zone defense, your eyes are supposed to be on the quarterback.

Bad take. In any defense, a QB tells you nothing about receivers in relation to your zone because a QB can be looking at any depth in relation to your direction. This is why you constantly see receivers running just behind our defenders and catching the pass and then running for an additional 5-10 yards. Trust me, I know football. At no point do you ever coach "watch the QB, sit in this area. Don't mind where the receivers are. You're just supposed to stand here and track his eyes so you can lose track of everything around you".

Head on a swivel. At all times. What I learned in high school ball and college ball. Glance at the QB to give you an indication of where he's looking, but find your nearest threat and get in that route if it is near your zone. Communicate if there is more than one.

Have you watched the past two years. Underperforming is incorrect. This is how they actually are. Sorry to disappoint you.

I have watched and that’s how I know they’ve been one of the best in the NFL but are now playing poorly.

You’re lack of knowledge is almost as disappointing as their play.

A lot has to do with scheming from coaches

This concerned me a bit.  Seems like they just banked on 3 guys getting to Eli then drop the rest in that Zone.

Problem is,  Rivera's prevent zone has always been beat like a drum no matter if it was McDermott, Wilks, or Washington at DC.

Heck I remember dog fights even back in 2015 where Bree's just sliced through that swiss cheese zone with ease

The Giants definitely were going a lot of max protect, like we used to do in '15/'16' when Cam and Ginn had the long ball going. Like folks said, Barkley, OBJ, and Shephard are a tough trio to handle. I personally don't think anything is wrong with the defense. With TD out we're playing David Mayo and the rookies a lot, which is contributing to our problems. The defensive line has looked good for most of the  season, and were hitting Barkley in the backfield a lot yesterday.

This is the best group of defensive backs we've had in Carolina possibly ever. When TD gets back and Reid gets more comfortable in our system, I'd like to see us playing more single high safety and bringing 1-2 extra rushers.
