Its time to fire Rivera

Recommended Posts

Riv seems so passe... and doenst seem to learn... i feel like the talent on the field is bailing him out .......its not all on one person but we never look polished... Not sure we quite have the tallant TB had but it could be a Dungy Gruden situation....

I mean, 50% of the teams have better coaches.    Obviously a mid-season firing isn't happening, unless something crazy happens, but if this mediocre play keeps up Tepper needs to look at options.    Ron needs to wake up and realize it's 2018 and not 1985.    He'll scrap through and we'll barely win some more games and then when it matters, we'll be outcoached, as usual.

50%??? You must be sniffing glue.

The Bucs fired Gruden in 2009 at 9-7 thinking he was too mediocre or whatever and where has that gotten them since?

They bring in coach after coach, have gone through 2 first round quarterbacks and a ginger giraffe,.. that’s what they called him in Florida ha.

Philadelphia got rid of Reid and it took a couple of coaches and of course Nick Foles playing the games of his life but they did get a Super Bowl,..

the point is,.. what or who is the alternative?

how many coaches has Kansas City, the Rams since Mike Martz, and a host of other teams to get to be even relevant?

we could fire Rivera and get the next young offensive hotshot,...

chud? He was an dud,.

how many other “geniuses” were duds? Many.

so,.. the immortal words are,..

be careful what you wish for,..

I posted this in another thread but I feel the need to post it here as well.

Fans don’t realize how hard it is to maintain consistency while also bringing championships. In the past 18 years only three teams have been able to win a Super Bowl while also consistently making the playoffs, those three teams being the Patriots, Packers, and Steelers.

EVERY OTHER team that has won a Super Bowl between 2000 and 2017 has ALSO gone at least three consecutive years of also missing the playoffs entirely in that same 18 year time frame.

Note that Rivers HAS never had a time frame where his team has missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons.

I’m sure some fans would be willing to sacrifice consistency for a Super Bowl (i.e. the Buccaneers, Saints, Colts, Giants, etc.). However, good ORGANIZATIONS learn to win consistently and then they learn how to win on the big stage.

Furthermore, in the past 5 years only six coaches have seen their team make the playoffs in at least four of the last five seasons; those coaches being Belichek, Tomlin, Carroll, McCarthy, Reid, and Rivera.

Now Belichek has multiple championship but be mindful that it took him seven years to do so (Rivera is in his eighth year). With that said, let’s take a look at the other consistent coaches:

Tomlin - One championship in 12 years

Carroll - One championship in 13 years (won in his eighth year)

McCarthy - One championship in 13 years

Reid - Zero championships in 20 years

So on average, the most consistent and successful coaches over the past five years have averaged one Super Bowl win in around 13 to 15 years of head coaching experience.

People calling for Rivera to be fired are pathetic and if we do fire Rivera we may just as easily find ourselves looking like the Buccaneers instead of the Steelers or Patriots.

Anyone hating on Rivera. Listen to his post game interview. Owns up to his mistakes. Whether you like it or not. You can’t call yourself a true fan & not see Rivera is a players coach. Compared to the coaches we’ve had that lost the locker room,  Rivera has yet to reach that point & im happy we have him. He deserves blame. Grass isn’t always greener though.

Rivera has been a pretty good coach overrall. Hard to say if his faults are more to do with in house issues or personnel problems we don't know about. He could certainly manage timeouts better. But I like him so much better than Fox. Rivera does actually go against the grain and try new things. If Fox ever had an ounce of Riverboat in him we would have made several playoff runs.
