Devin Funchess has been declared “dogsh!t”!

He’s hardly dogshit. He’s on pace for 1,000 yards and 5 touchdowns.

This offense is not constructed to be a pass-heavy juggernaut as New England, KC, Atlanta, New Orleans, etc. The emphasis has been and will continue to be the running game that shapes the passing attack. I doubt things would be much different if AJ Green or Julio Jones were running routes for the Panthers, which is why the team has never really invested much more than a draft pick in a WR. 

Funchess is...okay. He's not a franchise receiver and never will be, at least not in this offense. IMO, Samuel and Moore are going to be much better route runners and pass catchers than Funch. That means Funchess' time with the Panthers will be coming to an end soon, but the lack of receptions is not entirely on him. The offense is just not designed for any WR to be a focal point. The more the Panthers pass, the less success they have typically had and that has continued this year.

I think being considered "dog poo" is relative to your expectations.  I have higher expectations for Funchess than 60 yards a game and 1 TD every third game.  For someone playing as a WR1 in a contract year, its dog poo.

The list in the article is mostly full of people not living up to their potential right now.  I don't think anyone thinks Sammy Watkins is truly dog poo.  But in this pass happy era, and Watkin's salary...he is dog poo right now.

I like Funshess. He's not a #1 WR but he's very athletic for 6'4 220 punds and he's only 24 years old. You wait and see the huge free agent contract he gets this offseason......from some other NFL team.

Funchess has never been that motivated. You can see it in his sloppy routes he runs. Probably why we have spent two years drafting offensive weapons.

I love Drew Magary, but he's a satire writer and not a credible analyst. Funchess is an adequate receiver. He is not a #1 receiver, but the notion that's he not at least a decent #2 or that he couldn't start for any team other than ours is silly. I would think with all of the real busts we have had at receiver over the years that we would know a really bad receiver when we see them (Colbert, Hayes, Jarrett, Naanee, etc), but also realize that every receiver is not going to be as productive as Smitty and Moose.
