Eric Reid Press Conference

We all knew this coming into this signing. Some just enjoy hating others. I disagree with a lot of what Reid stands...erm...kneels for? However, it doesn’t mean I have to dislike him.

I know this is a foreign idea but you can disagree with someone and not hate them because of it...

I have to admit. There is some wisdom in letting this thread live. Good on you Igo and PnthrPryd and the mods.

They honestly should leave it in the main forum. What are they thinking: that signing Eric Reid wasn't going to start a lot of political discussion on the Huddle? I don't like this quarantine approach.

I'm shocked that sub zero couldn't behave like an adult.  His temper tantrums in the college bball forum are embarrassing to fellow DUKE fans.

please report them.  i never go to that forum but the rules there for not attacking other posters certainly apply.

This thread could quickly die out on its own.  I certainly won't be trying to resuscitate it.  But I also won't be pulling the plug

The signing of Reid makes politics "Panther Related".

So do we move every thread or learn how to communicate like adults?

No name-calling, no personal attacks.  There will be no warnings in this thread or any other thread for those transgressions.

You could just use this thread like police use low income neighborhoods, for entrapment and filling your quotas.

If this thread does nothing else it got the most recent version of Carolina Chuck marked as a spammer so I am all for entrapment.

What? Deserve ?

You said 1st thing a white person does when they come into money is to move away? What does a black person do when they come into money ?

I'll tell you and this goes for both races. Some will move away better their lives. Most will waste the money and stay right where they are.

That's just dumb. Sounds like you just want a hand out.

Pro tip in life: Pay your own way and quit making excuses. Now i'm going guess this makes me a racist, however my son in law and my grand kids might laugh at you for thinking this. Oh and about Reid I really don't care, Dude can play I said few days ago, no thanks cause of the concussions and I thought the contract would be to high for the risk.

Still a Panther Fan

You can only say this if white and black people were on equal footing when it comes to economic standing.  Why you act as though it were so is beyond me.  Poor white Americans often live among middle class white Americans.  So most of the time when they do come into money, they actually don't move that far away.  Yet if they were poor and came into money living among poor black people, they are getting the heck out of dodge.  This is the history of redlining.

I wish I knew the barrier of understanding that makes it so difficult for some to get this, but I just believe it comes down to folks not caring about what has been done to black Americans.  You don't care about the history, you don't care about how it is still effecting people today, you just care about número uno!  Actually if you would just say that, I'd be fine with it.  Yet don't act like white and black people are on equal footing.  That's utter nonsense.

i laugh at the whole notion that only poc suffer from income inequality as opposed to their white counterparts.

in fact, out of every 10 millionaires of all races, 8 are self made (i.e 1st generational) and only 2 are inherited.

now when we talk about billionaires, of course majority of them inherited a hefty sum from a parent or relative, and yes those people are predominantly white, but these are outliers that represent a fraction of a percent of the white population and aren't indicative at all of our current socioeconomic class climate by demographic. unfortunately this isn't reflected in most scholarly articles or studies b/c these outliers significantly raise the overall average income of whites.

but if you look at just overall growth, black and hispanic incomes are on the rise, and will continue this trend going forward

remember, majority of americans that made up the "upper middle class" 50 years ago were white, but over time the income gap has narrowed amongst different races within the group, especially after the great recession in 2008 where the middle class lost about 30% of their wealth.

majority of all demographics (white, brown, black) now fall in the contemporary "middle class" category

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/social-mobility-memos/2018/02/27/the-middle-class-is-becoming-race-plural-just-like-the-rest-of-america/

Firstly, these "self-made" millionaires come from families who are middle and upper middle class.  With that in mind, there is no solid black middle class.  Pew lists an income of 30k puts you in the middle class.  That's complete bull.  Maybe if this was the 1950s, and 30k would have been more than awesome.  That amount in this day is truly poverty.  To put it gently, that would be living paycheck to paycheck.  Yet even though the number is bull, in actuality, 30k would be middle class if you were making that money as a single person.  Lord help you if you have kids!  I think with two kids, you would have to be making 50k-60k in order to be considered middle class.  So with that information, and the charts I've put up showing where most of black America is, black people have no middle class at all.  If you are black and you have a net worth (wealth) of 350k, that puts you solidly in the top 5% of black people.  So if millionaires and billionaires are outliers for white Americans, middle class and upper middle class folk are outliers for black Americans.  Are you now understanding the conversation that's being had?

Yet if all of this is going to be ignored, to me just say you don't care about what happened to black Americans.  You don't care about redlining.  So on and so forth.  Just say it and I would be fine with it.  Be honest with yourself and everyone here.

he's a man from Louisiana playing in Carolina, why would he be asked about Chicago? what is that supposed to even mean?

If he is so concerned about the plight of his brothers and sisters I would think this would be high on his list...

i hear bob mcnair is accepting applications for new texans fans. the way he runs his team might be more suited to what you want. just a thought, as i think we'll see players have the opportunity to be much more outspoken on any social issue in the future.
