People respected Jim Brown and Ali and a nation wanted to watch them. Why because they were great players. Let's not forget Ali was actually stripped of his title fight a war that was killing millions of people. Kaps fighting for the drug dealers and criminals while ignoring the people getting killed by those people. You know the innocent people. So don't compare great people to Kap.

It's going to happen. I'm already there favorite target. I'm backing away all cool though.

Ya know, maybe you’re a favorite target because you’re constantly making insensitive comments like above, and silly comments about class and who has it and who does it. I don’t want to bring up politics, but you really should be careful what you say. I don’t think you or a good portion of the fan base has the right to comment on anybody’s “class” with some of the decisions y’all have made in the voting realm, and yalls defense of the person who benefited from your voting choices. Same goes for @bull123. Eric Reid has done nothing that would be deemed as classless or distasteful.

I swear some of y’all expect more from an athlete than you do a politician.

Ive got nothing else to say, though. Have fun in this thread, and buckle up. I have a feeling Reid will have you even more upset as the season advances, and it won’t be due to his play.

With the signing of Reid we are going to have to learn how to talk to each other.  I edited "coon" out of sub-zero's "coon backstroke" comment because many find that word objectionable.  Using the phrase "Uncle Tom" is clearly designed to bait him into a response.

We can have political discussion AND football discussion if we learn how to speak to each other.

What in the world did chuck say to get banned for the ten millionth time?

You're going to have to post a link for this assertion, please. Who else thinks like this? Unless you're just generally labeling police or POC as drug dealers. You wrote it, why?

As for Muhammad Ali refusing to enlist in 1967, I doubt most huddlers were alive at that time. And, for those who have never read nor heard his reason, here it is. It was not about war but about white privilege and domination over POC. There was way more white anger over Ali than Reid. And no one said Ali's draft evasion was a class act.

TL:DR version. Both Ali and Reid talk about white dominance and social injustice in history. Few white people thought Ali was a "class act" at the time.

I was around then.  I did.  Ali truly made an enormous sacrifice for what he believed in, and I am respectful of anyone who can do that.  Talk is NOT sacrifice, though.  It's talk.

Here's something else you didn't know, then: of the 20.1 million citizens excluded from the 1935 Social Security Act, at least 15 million were white.

Examining the Race Explanation

First, note that the coverage decision made in 1935 was not to exclude farm and domestic workers, which, had that been the factual circumstance, might have lent more credence to a charge of racial bias. Rather, the decision was to include only those workers regularly employed in commerce and industry. Thus, the coverage decision also excluded the following.

  • Self-employed individuals (including farm proprietors)
  • Persons working in the nonprofit sector
  • Professionals such as self-employed doctors, lawyers, and ministers
  • Seamen in the merchant marine
  • Employees of charitable or educational foundations
  • Employees of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
  • Persons aged 65 or older
  • Casual laborers
  • Members of Congress
  • Employees of federal, state, and local governments—everyone from the president of the United States to post office clerks

Indeed, of the 20.1 million gainfully employed workers that the president's Committee on Economic Security estimated were excluded from participation in the Social Security system, at least 15 million were white.6

Here is the source of that quote.  It is a somewhat lengthy read, but worth it, if anyone REALLY wants to be educated about the FACTS, not just be swayed by modern-day racist rhetoric.. Exclusions were made because of the administrative problems of collecting withholding og various groups.  Farm  and domestic workers were certainly excluded, but they surely weren"t alone.

Educate yourselves.  I did.  Then reflect on it.  Tell me what relevance it should have to a football player, 80 years later.

Okay for everybody who can't comprehend what this is..

This is the "Well some white people didn't get something so it wasn't a racially motivated thing" argument..

Its similar to the "well there were some white indentured slaves" comment when discussing slavery..

It's claim is to make it seem like things were on equal footing by saying some white folks didn't get something just like all the blacks folks who didn't get it.. While neglecting the facts that this is still 20 somethings years before African American were allowed to vote, have equal education and pay on the same jobs or even eat, drink or live anywhere near these white ppl who didn't benefit from these programs..

Lol

Since Eric Reid was outspoken about his politics I am trying to let everyone have their say in here.

but that is directly proportional to how much work I have to do.

If personal attacks happen vacations will be issued.

When is social injustice the same as politics. Did I miss a study that showed social injustice is related to a specific political affiliation more. Last I check it was more to do with minorities. We chose to add politics to it to change the story

WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE WHITES!!! LOL

Edit: A quick internet search shows that in 1940, there were around 118,000,000 white people in the U.S. and only around 13,000,000 black people. So while around 13% of whites were excluded, 39% of blacks were excluded. Reflect on this and tell me what relevance it would have to a football player, who's still seeing similar inequities, 80 years later.

60-70%of this fan base deserves nothing good in life. There are truly some low life POS people on this board. Whats funny is the odd nature of hating Black people, yet so called cheering for a group composed of rougly 90% BLACK MEN. Then again, I can see why the posts in here are what they are. The musings of confused mental midgets and rural bigoted subhuman trash.

I'm not going to get into this argument because it is a sensitive situation and I'm an African-American who 100% sides with Kap/Reid, so no reason to go back and forth about it (although saying Kap is fighting for the "drug-dealers" and "criminals" is one of the most ignorant posts I have ever read on any forum; its loaded with racial undertones, even if it wasn't intentional).

However, I will say this - saying the people "respected" and "liked" Ali is one of the biggest revisionist history things that people say.  Muhammad Ali faced a lot of hate for a long time and some of his views were nonsensical.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/editorials/2016/06/07/civil-rights-champion-muhammad-ali-was-anything-but/En45jgnZU2ukPf7GA0IgrL/story.html

If you want to make disgusting comments such as who you think Kaepernick is defending, then whatever.  But lets clear up a misconception.  Muhammad Ali was not some beloved by the people soul in his prime.

I also saw you mention MLK.  I'm sure you are aware he was assassinated, right?  Again, MLK was not some universally loved person despite being civil in his approach as opposed to Malcolm X, for example.

At the end of the day, any African-American in American history who has stood up in a noticeable way for the rights of other African-American has faced backlash.  People use the national anthem excuse to hate Kaepernick and Reid, but its only an excuse.  MLK didn't kneel for any anthem and he still got shot.  America as a whole tends to not like when people view the system as being unfair/unequal despite literally every statistic proving that.  You could take any basic sociology class (which, in my opinion, should be a requisite nowadays and maybe it would make people more understanding) and figure this out.  And it isn't just a race thing either.  It's why you see people oppose/question feminism.

I'm done with hiding comments and asking people to be civil to each other.  Not even polite..... CIVIL.

from now on just have to hand out 12 hour vacations (min)

Looks like I hit the bullseye with "is civility a lost art?" a few days ago.
