Rhys Lloyd on his missed tackle

Name a legitimate star who was "on the bubble" i.e. got cut early in their career and then picked up by another team and developed into a Pro Bowl caliber player.

I think Harrison of the Steelers was actually cut and went to the ravens and cut again. Now he is an all-pro. And thats just one example there are many more. There are many examples of guys we have let go that have succeeded in starting roles elsewhere.

Wes Welker was cut by the chargers in 04. Jake was but 3 times by the saints. Kurt Warner was cut by Packers in 94'. Hell Jonny Unitas was even cut by the Steelers and he is in the HOF.

I'm wondering who on this forum actually saw the play. The runner cut up the middle. Most of the sissy kickers who make "tackles" do it by running a guy out of bounds. Llyod didn't have this luxury since it was in the middle of the field. There wasn't much he could of done in that situation. The kicker is pretty defenseless in that situation when the returner has the whole field to make a move and isn't confined to the sidelines.

Fine. But let's put the question this way - what percentage of guys that get cut from training camp rosters actually end up being a star? Maybe you find a diamond in the rough with the last man out of the active roster but the large majority of them go on to careers other than football.

Think about who we cut this year on the final day. Can you honestly say any of those guys will ever be stars in this league? What are they doing now? On practice squads at best. And that's probably all they will ever do. A single roster spot is not going to make much of a difference in the long run. Plus, the actual kickoffs and field goals are the least of our worries right now. Kickoff coverage and Baker are a different story.

He was NFC special team player of the week, and you think we should replace him? With who, Jesus Christ?

He hasnt been consitant. There have been a number of low kicks and a couple blocked kicks when he took too many steps. Kasay is here till he retires, we're not going to replace him.

Hasn't been but one blocked kick by him, and it was on a bad snap. He's a great punter, something Kasay don't do, and Lloyd is learning to do.

The kick that was returned for a TD didnt make it to the end-zone, which let TB right back into the game. If you are paid to kick touchbacks, then do it and you wont have to worry about making a tackle. Some elite teams can afford to pay a specialist, we cant. Really you just kick-off for christ sakes. If Llyod was not a panther would our record be the same? If he's not trained to tackle, then what the hell does he do at practice? Oh my bad he hurt his ankle.

We cut Rashon Harris I believe he will be a good one (it wasn't the Final Cuts but we could have kept him with only a Kicker and Punter). We cut Favorite and I think he will be a good backup NT for the Chiefs (depth is worth more then you realize). And most guys that are right on the bubble can contribute on ST which is more imortant then the average fan realize. Bottom line a extra spot increases your odds of finding one of those gems. Roster spots are worth gold in the NFL and it is a shame that we are one of the few teams that cannot realize this.

I would love to get a guy that could do all three (Punt, Kick, and kickoff). But that leaves your whole special teams (basically) susceptible to injury.
