You know who isn't getting enough credit? Marty Hurney

Just think of how many teams can't find a quarterback. Now realize that Hurney found two.

Another thing I don't see many mention is the cap room during Hurney's last few years stagnated, and even went down. During Gettleman's time in Carolina the cap went up by over 10 million per year, every single year.

The only reason he was able to “find” Cam was through his incompetence of building the WORST team in the NFL. And when Cam got signed to a 2nd contract, it was a very good deal. Not team crippling like Delhomme.

And cap space is relative to player salaries. Salaries have increased as much, if not more. Did Delhomme get 3/84M like Cousins?

He took one year to find a quarterback after a miss with Clausen, pretty good. Though we both know that having a first overall, or high pick doesn't guarantee a good quarterback, or even serviceable. I'm glad he chose the right one, and didn't take offers to trade down.

And cap space isn't relative to any salary when it goes down, and stagnates unexpectedly.

One year, while paying Delhomme to play somewhere else. And drafting Jimmy Clausen. And again, only because he sucked at his job enough to listen t Rivera and take him. As an Auburn fan, there were reports of Rivera, Shula, Chud being at Auburn meeting and scouting Cam. Never heard Hurney mentioned ever.

LTs are hard to find. Phil Savage drafted Joe Thomas. Was it a great choice or a benefit of incompetence from a proven awful GM?

And the answer to the cap not going up, is to sign everyone to overpriced contracts? 2010 there was no cap. Did every other team destroy themselves? He signed a 2nd RB to a large contract, at a time when almost no team would sign ONE. This was in 2012 when the cap was increasing. After he already saddled us with a ton of long term anchors.

Would you rather have Dave Gettleman right now?

Yeah, this thread is pretty much directed towards you.

Why? Because I answered honestly? With an answer based on facts? Not one born from confirmation bias or an agenda. As I stated , in this thread, I think he’s done a good job since his return.

See, unlike you, I can judge a move on its merit. Not what GM made it. I have numerous posts on here where I defend Hurney and bash Gettleman. Show me any posts of yours where you praise anything about Gettleman. You need to look in the mirror if you think this thread is for me. I’ll wait for those posts to show how unbiased and fair your opinion is........

I haven’t had many issues with him since his return.  Other than (post deleted because user is not allowed to comment on PKs) and a couple draft picks, he’s done very well. Whatever happened with Breeland worked out for the best so who cares. No matter what happens, he made sensible moves, at the time. Not second-guessing aftwards if the moves were sound in the first place.
