I think I wait to see if Hurney can dig himself far enough out of the hole he's made for me to pat him on his head.

Yea, this. So far so good. Hurney has done a lotta good things this time. Nowhere near enough to make up for the first time around though. We’ll see how it ends up.

I was one of the people on here who damn near jumped off a bridge when we brought Hurney back. So far he looks to have done a good job. I will temper expectations because we are only 4 weeks into the season but I am willing to give him credit for good high ceiling low risk moves so far and what appears to be a decent draft after the 1st rd pick.  In other words he hasn’t done anything so far to make me think he has poo’ed the bed this go round.

I'm not shocked. Once upon a time Hurney was a top 10 gm.

rofl, "Once upon a time" as in a comedy fairy tale.

Literally one of the worst drafts of all time. Especially when Browns pick = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Iupati for the 49ers (4X pro bowl G and that's just if we took that guy. Other players after that pick within reason that could have went to us: Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, TJ Ward.

Followed by another top worst draft of all time:

Drafts like these still have this team in a hole and depleted of would be 1st round talents that we've been trying to crawl back out of since. And Captain is still on the team from 2009 for the 1 moron who always says it doesn't matter anymore because it does. As a matter of fact that's the only way to properly judge GM moves is in the long term.

One person still on the team(played with others) and Lafell still running around still never having a 1,000 yard season ever. Even if those two drafts were just 'bad' drafts instead of all time stinkers who knows how this team could have done in the Super Bowl appearance or other playoffs.

His legacy was landing a first rounder in almost every draft and that's literally it in most cases. Can't even be an average GM with that, it's not how to build a team or maintain a team and we didn't. Our good first rounders when they weren't hurt would help carry us every few years to ultimately lose to teams with actual rosters to go with their first round hits.

That situation also helped screw up the FA period/signings of our own guys because we HAD to overpay those 1st rounders because they were it, no replacements ready, no competition, no other draft hits to make up for their loss if they walked.

Where is the top 10 situation in your fairy tale there? Damn sure isn't in FA so comedy! indeed.

The further removed from JR we get, the more my ire towards Hurney turns toward him.

There were whispers for years but recent events really make it seem like JR had his hand in the daily player moves more than many originally thought. It seemed like Hurney was a yes man for the longest time, and this time around, since JR was removed, Hurney hasn't really had to answer to him.

Credit to Gettleman for righting the ship financially, but Credit to Hurney as well so far. Too soon to determine just how good his draft was, but I like what I see in Jackson, and hopefully Moore pans out the more playing time he gets. He hasn't made a move yet that will cripple the franchise, so let's hope it continues.

Keep in mind it's also only week 3 of the season, a lot can happen between now and the end, but so far, so good. Can't complain too much about Hurney or his moves so far, so props to him.

His GM career didn't start in 2009.

No poo you goof that's why I linked our draft history.

"Drafts like these"

But thanks I now have seen the mental capacity of who I'm talking to.

You're either a fool or have the mental capacity of a wild turkey. Hurney was in charge when Carolina made it to 2 NFC Championships in 3 seasons. Not many gms have that in their resume.

Dumb as hell statement.. You have no knowledge of Hurney history here..

Everybody with knowledge,  ..acknowledges Hurney 1st 7 years as GM in his 1st stint was pretty good.. He deserve to get fired for his last 3 years of that stint.. But it is dumb to blanket A superbowl run and 2 NFC championship games as retarted..

2 contending years out of 10. Last I checked 20% puts you in tardville territory

It’s at least 3 (2003, 2005, 2008).  2007 probably would have been too if Delhomme doesn’t get hurt.  And you can’t even blame him for 2002.  Our defense was elite, we just didn’t have a QB yet.

The 2009 team was great too except for QB, but it was his fault he extended Jake

Imagine how much better those mid 00s Panthers teams would have been with Cam.

2008 ended up in getting blown out at home in the 1st round of the playoffs in the most embarrassing fashion. Then hurndog promptly hands over a massive guaranteed contact to a QB with no elbow and couldn't throw a ball 15 yards.

I don't think I can put that season as a great year

Just think of how many teams can't find a quarterback. Now realize that Hurney found two.

Another thing I don't see many mention is the cap room during Hurney's last few years stagnated, and even went down. During Gettleman's time in Carolina the cap went up by over 10 million per year, every single year.
