You know who isn't getting enough credit? Marty Hurney

Wild how fast we are to re-crown Hurney when 3-4 seasons into Gettleman's tenure folks were still trying to attributed the team's turn around to Hurney.

Marty has definitely done a better job this go around than prior seasons, won't take that away from him.

3 games in and we are ready to anoint a guy we all hated as great. No thanks, I'll wait to see how the full season plays out with the talent he has brought in.

When his job was on the line, he traded away future first rounders--that still bothers me. We got Otah and E. Brown.  Then he drafted Clausen, after trying to trade up (with the Rams) offering another future first rounder.  That draft he also traded up for Armanti Edwards and took Eric Norwood---a player nobody understood (did not fit).  This draft was when Fox was a lame duck, so you get to see what he is capable of doing without a coach in his ear.

We learn from our mistakes--and JR may have beem more controlling than we realize.

Once RR realizes what he has in Moore, this will be considered a strong draft--Jackson, Moore, and Thomas alone make it strong.  However, I see some potential in the 2 LBs he drafted--and I see the potential in Gaulden.  By year 3, we could easily see 5 starters from this draft:  Moore, Jackson, Gaulden, Thomas, and Carter.  Smith and Haynes could play roles as well.  That is solid.

Free agency,  however, is where he earned his stripes.  Spending very little and getting Wright, Reid, Clark, Heinicke,  Searcy (yes, we needed a FS then), Poe, and Anderson---that is solid as well.  (I left Smith off because he has sucked so far)

Where does this rumor come from, stating that Hurney offered a first round pick to trade up a few spots when no other team needed a quarterback that draft like Carolina? I understand a couple of posters on this board post this rumor often, saying they have "sources", but no one with real inside information has verified it. It just doesn't make any sense though. Especially when considering no team traded up in front of Carolina to draft Clausen, as there was no need to. It just seems like a way to smear Hurney.

Waiting to take Clausen without trading up was the reality, and it was a good one, not perfect, but good. Many talking heads were berating Carolina for not moving up in the draft to get him earlier in the first day. Carolina had to take a quarterback that draft, no matter what.

its very likely that  Hurney had time to evaluate his first tenure with the Panthers and learned form his mistakes . He has done a pretty good job so far in the draft and those brought in .  Its now up to the coaches to develop the players and make the right decisions on how to use the talent given them . Every team has players injured . The O-line has played great and our offense is clicking. With Reid our defense should improve.  We are in position to win .  Thanks Hurney

He has made a couple good moves, and a couple bad ones.

I somewhat like this draft so far, we will see if Ron will let them earn more playing time.  Thomas and Jackson look like a good ones.

Hated the extension to Olsen, hated going with Gano (and overpaying) vs. a young K on a 4 year contract.  Didn't really like the Poe signing, but that may turn around.

All of you who are quick to pat him on the back can't have been here during his first stint...that was some truly awful GM'ing back in the day.

Hurney def made mistakes doing his first run but knowing what we know now I think jerry was a big part of it with the big contracts handed out and Hurney was just following orders.

The contracts were awful, and I 100% think that Jerry had a hand in some of that...I also think that Jerry had a hand in Matt Kalil, commonly known as one of DG's worst mistakes around here.  (and it was)

However, many of Hurney's draft moves were confounding, with a few of them being down right stupid.  Go back and look at Marty's success in the 2nd round during his time here.

He hasn't really done anything yet to completely screw up the team long term, so I'll say that.
