Are the Carolina Panthers now a Superbowl Contender?

Take off the homer glasses, and think about where we rank in the NFC, and take a look at our division...those are the only things that matter.

 

Real teams in the NFC:

Rams, Falcons, Saints, Eagles, Panthers, Vikings?

Secondary teams in the NFC:

Skins, Seahawks, Packers, Bucs, Bears?

If I'm being honest with myself, we are likely in the 3-5 range as far as talent...with Minny and the Rams above us, and possibly the Saints and Falcons right there with them.

Now, we do have some really good players coming back from injury/suspension, and I do think that our passing game will continue to get better, however this is an early bye, and the offensive line still is a major worry for me.

I think we have a shot (any given Sunday blah blah blah), but I doubt we will be the betting favorites in any playoff game, save a crazy run through the rest of the season.

I considered us SB contenders before and this only helps, unless he is a shell of his former self or something else unforeseen.

Falcons have zero chance with the state of their defense.

Signing Reid seems to be a really good move, but it doesn't really move the Super Bowl contender needle. Panthers were in the mix before and they are in the mix now.

If the team plays to its potential they are 1 or 2 with the Rams.

That he is ok and that they didn't want any of the distraction that probably will come with him. Don't get me wrong he is better than CJ but I don't think he was worth what baggage might come with him. He is definitely not a top 10 safety that everyone is thinking he is. We are just happy we are not trotting CJ back out there next Sunday.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves... The team should be better because of this signing, but one never knows. The proof will come on the field.
