I think he just wants to play. Ideally we’d swap out Torrey and he’d be a real nice compliment to Funchess. We’d have two “2’s”.

But we both know Ron would never make such a move.

It would technically be Hurney and unfortunately I doubt Tennessee wants to eat that new contract numbers to trade him. I mean we could just send a 3rd or a 4th and that would be fair value and keep Smith. Either way its probably not going to happen because of the Titans.

They’re apparently going to grant him his release...

He's played half of their offensive snaps. How he's best used is determined by the coaching staff, not the players themselves. And Vrabel seems to be doing pretty well so far with that win over the Jags and a 2-1 record with their starting QB having serious nerve damage in his throwing elbow... Matthews is a quitter and loser for leaving the team because he's whining about playing time and targets. The exact type of cancer nobody wants playing with them. Could never trust or count on him.

Again, you don’t sign an extension to play half the time. He wants to play, period. Nothing wrong with that.

He's giving up on his team 3 games into the season after signing a big extension. The Titans have a winning record despite having injuries at QB, TE and both tackle spots. I've seen him make comments in the past that he thinks he's a WR1. Matthews would be an upgrade to Smith on the field but downgrade in the locker room.

The numbers Matthews will be putting up on his couch while he quits on his teammates? Hmm... Meanwhile Efe works his ass off after being inactive the first two games and is NFC DPOW...

So less than 20% of this season turned Matthews into a noncompetitive couch potato? Yeah, OK, while in 2016 and 2017, the Titans relied on Matthews as their most productive receiver that can legitimately produce in the X, Y and Z positions. He was the poster boy for dependability.

You sign a contract (extension) and bitch three game in that you aren't getting enough touches?  Maybe he isn't getting open, maybe he is a one hit wonder.  Maybe the extension went to his head and he isn't working as hard as he did before.

Everyone was happy when we signed Smith.  Many thought he was the answer to our deep threat issues.  He's not or hasn't been to this point.

OP seems to believe this guy is the answer.  If he's released I would bring him in and kick the tires some but I wouldn't trade for him no matter what they would want for him. We'd do better holding onto our picks.

We go through this crap every time a player is cut, released, wants a trade, demands a trade, threatens to retire...blah blah blah.

Sometimes I wonder if half of this forum are old ladies that hang out at the thrift store looking for a bargain.....
