Asking for a release weeks after signing an extension over targets? Hard pass

I’d bet he asked about his role before signing the extension given the fact Corey Davis is now in year 2. He was probably told something different than what is happening now.

I don't think it will happen, because the Rivera is just too stuck in his ways, but actually I'm with him FreeFua on this (and it seems like forever that I've agreed with him on anything, but perhaps that's an exaggeration).

I don't give two shits that he doesn't want to play for the Titans anymore. Vrabel came in and relegated maybe his best receiver to the bench, so he has quit on Matthews.

This receiver has been underappreciated. He would be a nice complement to Funchess and the gang, and provide Cam with a receiver that knows how to get open.

It’s called being a competitor. We could use more people like Matthews on this team. It would be different if he sucked and was b!tching about his lack of targets but that’s not the case.

No. Efe Obada is a competitor. Matthews is not even close.

Pessimist forum is looking for new recruits to join their ranks where they have a round room where you can search to your hearts content looking for a corner to sit in.

When you’re trying to “burn” someone keep it short. That was brutal.

Looking at his stats the last few years though it looks like he only comes down with about 60% of his passes and only had 4 TDs last year. Wouldn’t be a massive get, probably a step above Torrey Smiths current production but I’d rather get Eric Reid for the S first.

Hell, I still think Dez could excel in the correct setting.

Not what the numbers say...

The numbers Matthews will be putting up on his couch while he quits on his teammates? Hmm... Meanwhile Efe works his ass off after being inactive the first two games and is NFC DPOW...

They’re trying to turn Torrey Smith into something Matthews is already good at plus he can still win deep. However, like you said Rivera is too stuck in his ways and it’s once again going to bite us in the ass.

Dead on about him being underappreciated. He’s just a good all around WR.

The fact they’re going to grant him his release tells me Vrabel isn’t planning on ever using him which I’m sure he was told recently which is why he asked for his release.

And I don’t think that first part is an exaggeration ;)

Explain to me how Matthews is quitting on his teammates?

He signed an extension to stay AND PLAY. Vrabel isn’t using him. So should he just sit on the bench with a smile on his face? That’s called having a losers mentality.

You have a point and the Titans offense sucks but it's not like he would get a ton of targets in our system.

He's played half of their offensive snaps. How he's best used is determined by the coaching staff, not the players themselves. And Vrabel seems to be doing pretty well so far with that win over the Jags and a 2-1 record with their starting QB having serious nerve damage in his throwing elbow... Matthews is a quitter and loser for leaving the team because he's whining about playing time and targets. The exact type of cancer nobody wants playing with them. Could never trust or count on him.

I think he just wants to play. Ideally we’d swap out Torrey and he’d be a real nice compliment to Funchess. We’d have two “2’s”.

But we both know Ron would never make such a move.
