PFF: Oline Grades so far

True. OL is not a swap out position. Look at Atlanta’s SB season, they were ridiculously healthy at OL. I think 4 of the 5 played 100% and the 5th played close to 100% on the season. We had similar numbers in 2015, with Turner missing a few games but when healthy they play the entire game.

It may be the norm, but it hasn't been the norm for the Panthers for quite awhile.  I've posted that the fact these 5 guys played every snap, 2 weeks in a row, was a stabilizing factor for communication and consistency. It's nice to be normal for a change.

Just a reminder that PFF grades should be taken with a grain of salt.

Andy Dalton (352 yards, 2 TDs, 4 interceptions, QB rating of 64.8) was graded higher than Cam (150 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 turnovers, QB rating of 108).  They also graded Giovanni Bernard higher than CMC.

I am not really sure how you can come up with either outcome let alone both.  Personally, I lost the little faith I had in PFF grades after seeing that.

That can't be. Wow. What? Scoring a TD makes that much of a difference when you triple the guy in yards? Nonsense.

So with Moton balling out, what do we do with Williams if he comes back this season, and seasons moving forward?  All-Pro tackles do not grow on trees, but it seems like both Moton and Williams are better suited for RT not LT.  IDK, what do you guys think?  Re-sign Williams and Trade Moton?  See if one of them can play the Left side?  Keep them both for now?

Keep both and plan to cut Matt as soon as it's advantageous to do so. Williams should come at a slight discount because of the injury and Moton's cheap through 2020, so we'll have room. Also Ryan may be off the books.

This team cannot afford to let a good tackle go and Moton's a serious blessing. Against all odds we may have homegrown a talented player at an expensive position of serious need, you don't trade that.

There are some myths and misconceptions about our OL.

1. Amini was never slated to actually start.  Nobody wanted him there...especially the coaches.  He was only initially put there because he had the most experience, and more importantly, he was there as the rabbit.  He set the floor for LG.  Everyone expected someone else, most likely Moton, would run away with the job.  Amini's value to Rivera is as depth, not as a starter.

2. Rivera does not have some strange affinity for Amini like some here think.  Rivera places a high value on knowing the system (which is the same reason he looked internally to fill safety, and not at a guy like Reid).  And no matter what you think of him as a player, Amini does know the system and has played every position on the line except center.  That's the appeal of Amini for Rivera, nothing else.  He's cut him before, and I suspect he would have again if we hadn't had a rush of OL injuries and not much experienced depth.

3.  Right now, Moton is playing RT because we don't have anyone else but Clark to play LT, and Clark's history shows he's much better on the left side than right.  I wouldn't read anything into who's playing where than that.  Moton does have some tape now at LT, so the coaches will have time in the offseason to determine whether or not he's ready to play there anytime soon.  Whatever Williams is looking for contract-wise will also likely play a role in next year's plan.  If he's willing to sign a one year prove-it deal to show he's healthy and maximize his value, I could see him back at RT and Moton at LT.  Which brings me to M. Kalil.

4.  Matt Kalil is not as bad as many here state (too many have gotten caught up in group think).  Is he a special talent or worth the contract he received?  No!  But looking strictly at his play at LT, without taking his contract into consideration, he's decent.  He'll have some good games and some where he gives up a bad sack.  But overall, he's middle of the road.  Which means he's also expendable if we find a legitimate upgrade.  And that upgrade may very well be Moton if Williams does come back to play RT.  Personally, since we can't really get out from under Kalil's contract right now, I would prefer it to play out where Williams comes back, Moton takes over LT, and Kalil plays understudy.

These dudes have done a helluva job.

We thought when the injuries started and pulling guys like Clark off the street.  Thatd theyd be the thing that holds us back this year.

Theyve looked solid while the defense has struggled especially safety

Ill just leave this here

Tolbert couldve made it through that hole

And to think RON DIDN'T WANT TO START LARSEN OR EVEN VAN ROTEN

So Larsen is starting in place of Turner. Who would pick Larsen over Turner especially when Larsen is Ryan Kalil's backup with Kalil hurt much of last year. And Van Roten was in the mix at guard but ideally it was going to be Moton if Matt Kalil had worked out. And again Ron doesn't decide who plays on the offensive line. Matso, Wharton and Norv do. Ron is just the hype mouthpiece who speaks to the press. So stop the trolling.
