I know you said that you've explained it before, but entertain me and do so again, or link it. Since you've proven to be adept at these contractual matters, my ears are piqued.

This is the bottom line. We gave him 25M. He has all of it. So right now we have paid off(cap wise) 10.3M of it. The only number that means anything anymore is the 14.7M that’s left. And the 7M that is guaranteed if we don’t cut him after the season.

As a post June 1. He will count 4.9M in 2019(what dead money is due that year which is 4.9M) and 2020(9.8M or whatever is left)

2017-3.4

2018-6.9

2019-4.9

2020-9.8M

Now, considering that you were to pay him that 7M and keep him. You still have the same 9.8M left to pay after the season. Now a 14.7M tab becomes 21.7M. For a player who should never wear the uniform again. That’s it.

Turner should be out of the protocol after the bye and our O-Line will get even better.

I'm fine with not rushing him back, even if he's out of the protocol. I'd recommend sitting him an extra week or two just to be safe. We still have a lot of ignorance about concussions and I'd prefer to be cautious. Of course, I suspect Trai will not agree with that, but our trainer should be able to talk him into it. Last thing we want with him is to have another Oher situation happen.

It baffles me how many people want to throw good money after bad with Kalil. He's a bust of a free agent signing. We gotta accept it, take our lumps and move on. You're exactly right, the only smart move to make is designating him a post-June 1st cut next year. Yes, it sucks to take that cap hit, but it's the best bad option we have at this point.

Of course he wasn't as comfortable there given that he's never played the position before. Despite that, he probably played that position in his first outing as well as anyone we've had since Jordan Gross. Fine, let him play out his first season starting at RT (just like Gross did) but bring Williams back and let Moton spend the entire offseason next year focusing 100% on LT.

I'm fine with that. I don't suspect our coaching staff is, though.

Maybe, but the issue is that our 5 starting olineman all played 100% of offensive snaps last week.  That means the staff doesn't trust any of the backups.  Might change with the trade this week, but I would still feel better if he is back in the lineup against the Giants.

Of course, his health is the primary concern, and if there is even a hint of a problem, he should stay out.

After this season, if we designate Kalil as a post-June 1 cut, we actually get a $1M cap benefit if OverTheCap.com has their figures right.

https://overthecap.com/player/matt-kalil/1793/

Kalil's base salary last season and this season was only $1M.  His base salary jumps to $7M for the 2019 season.  Dead money or not, I think he's more valuable as a post-June 1 cut after this season than keeping him another season and paying him a $7M salary.

If thats the case we should do that.

Didnt run it on over the cap

Fanspeak doesn't have the post june 1st cuts.  But when we cut cut him (which im assuming is pre june 1) we took little cap hit. And wouldve had more cap space next year had we kept him

But if that post june 1 is correct, its a no brainer to cut him

That's my concern as well. I think they're looking at the situation all wrong. They see Moton as better suited at RT. I can understand that because like I said previously, the vast majority of OTs will play better at RT simply because it's the easier position to play. There's a reason why elite LTs are among the highest paid non-QBs in the NFL. Those guys are rare. What they should he asking themselves is if they can reasonably expect to find a better LT option than Moton next off-season. I suspect the odds of that are slim to none.

Given all the turmoil and angst over the line leading up to the season, #18 is like #1, relatively speaking. I'll take it!

This. They're playing better than we could've ever hoped given the ludicrous amount of injuries we've suffered throughout the unit. I honestly think they're underrated at #18. They were damn near flawless against the Bengals.

My concern is that we see Moton as a RT and we're just going to let Williams walk. I really wish we'd give Moton a legit look at LT because from what I've seen he can handle it. It's a copout time say an OT is better suited at RT. Hell, virtually all OTs ate better suited at RT simply because it's the easier position to play. It's a question of whether or not the guy CAN play on the left side and Moton can. We very well could have our OT tandem for the rest of Cam's career already on the roster. I just hope we don't fug this up.

I think Chris Clark is left handed and plays a natural Left Tackle. I agree though, but I think that is why they moved Moton to Right Tackle when they started Chris Clark.

You can say that again, especially considering the Bengals have a legitimate NFL defense, and I can only remember one sack, maybe two with the strip sack.
