finally beat the main line story this morning around 3 a.m. had to be up for work at 5:45, but felt the story reaching a conclusion, and wanted to finish it in that sitting. totally worth it.

amazing game, and i can't wait to get back to it. so much i still haven't done. countless side missions/random encounters, hunting for legendary animals, farming pelts, hunting treasure etc etc. not to mention online is in beta now, so i want to check that out.

I started playing little by little but haven't gotten sucked in until the last two days.  I was bored honestly, the game is gorgeous and slowwwwwww.  Annoyingly slow.  I decided to go look for the White Arabian and I got it.  I realized that in the process it took me all over the map and a couple of hours wandering around and hunting, camping, side quests on the trip and various other tasks.  Now I totally get it.  You really have to work to get the most out of the experience.  You get what you give to this game.

yep... my wife has been playing it when she gets home from work in the afternoon, and also just finished it up recently. our play styles are amazingly different. she uses the auto pilot feature all the time, barely stops for the interactions just off the path etc etc. she mainly has just played through the story, and done some farming for pelts. i on the other hand stop literally every time i see a gray dot for a random encounter pop up, i've done as many side missions as possible, taken my time exploring areas, spent time taking photos, played poker, dominoes, and blackjack for a considerable amount of time etc etc. i only recently got hellbent on finishing up the story, and powered through the last 15 hours or so.

not saying there's a right or wrong way to play the game, but i cannot imagine playing through like she has.

OK guys...with work and life a little crazy haven't had enough time to play this as it should be played.

However, Winter is coming, and that shuts down Wilmington...hoping to have more time soon.

That said, since the fishing is winding down here in real life, have any of you figured out how to fish in the game yet, or if it's worth it/fun?

you have to do a mission in the game before you can fish. it's towards the end of your time in chapter 2.

I was thinking that too, I rode all the way to the bait shop thinking I could get one there but no.

Then I thought about cruising the coast line and maybe jacking somebody that was fishing but I haven't seen anybody.

I haven't got that mission yet I'm able to play about 1 1/2 per day and still just so many things to do not progressing the story that fast, but loving every min of time in the game.

Its like being in my own Westworld

you have to progress the story to get the fishing mission. it's right towards the end of the second chapter when you're at horseshoe overlook.

  • 3 weeks later...

2nd time going through it now. I'm in Chapter 4 and have done almost evrything I have wanted. Got every item I wanted early and tricked them all out. Money is not an issue at all if you go searching for gold bars from the jump. Then you get outfitted exactly how you want and leisurely enjoy the game, work on challenges etc. This is the greatest game I have ever played. And will likely play it through again when finished.

I've logged a bunch (idk how many) hours already in this game and I'm only on Chapter 2 lol. Feel like I should start trying the main story a bit more soon here.

I really like the game my only gripe is that I wish there were an option to turn off survival needs (i.e. eating, cleaning, etc.) It's not really a burden I just don't think it adds anything to the game for me other than unnecessary stress.

Whenever im in a town I just pop into a gun shop and have all my guns cleaned, hardly ever clean them otherwise.  The food needs seemed a little off, Id eat 3 times a day and was underweight the entire game.

The most annoying thing was the horse being dirty, brush him 5 times and the little red icon popping up again immeadiately.  Oh and snakes.

All in all, not much to complain about.  You should definitely delve into the story, it really picks up and is pretty moving.

    • I think a lot of wrs are going to go in the second round before we pick.  There are a lot of wr needy teams.  I think there will be a big run on them in the late 30s and 40s.
    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
