5 years, 50mil.

Takes less to save us cap to get him help on Oline, like Brady did

Why would he do that when this organization hasn't proven they can draft an Oline? If I'm Cam &  you're going to give 25 mil to ,say R. Kalil2.0, naah, you can just give that 25 mil.

And Brady was 37 when he started taking "pay cuts" One of his "pay cuts" literally didn't change the amount of money he made, simply shifted it around for cap purposes. Which is good for the team, and  a couple of dozen players a  year do that.  The other, he traded non guaranteed money for more guaranteed money. That's even before we talk about how he gets paid under the table because of his company that has a relationship with the Patriots.

I have never clowned Cam. Now Jake yes.  But to expand on my reasoning. Cam will probably go to Atlanta. Hometown home team. It won't be anything personal.  But I can see it happening and would wish him well. Excluding against us.

Ryan won't be done playing by then. He wants to play until he's 40, he's on the same kind of regime that Brees and Brady are. No reason he can't do that. Ryan is also under contract until 2023, they'd have 24 mil of dead money if they released him after the 2020 season. So, no, no happening.

Unless Cam's play really goes downhill next couple of years because of the wear and tear on his body, Panthers would be insane to let him leave.

Not expecting his play to slip over the next couple of years myself, Cam is loved by his teammates and the fans, he's  at minimum a top 10 QB,  There are legit critiques to his game, just like for every other QB, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

If the Panthers do let him go, he'll be unemployed for like 6 seconds, be 15-20 teams lining up to talk to him. Atlanta won't be one of them.

Cam is not an accurate passer; when he loses his legs, he is done.  He is still a great QB, but I am not sure a long contract at 31 is going to pay off--having said that, He will get 3-year, 91 million--unless he slows down over the next few years.

Folks, Cam takes a beating and is tough as  a bag of nails.  Eventually, the bag gives and breaks due to the constant pounding--I am just not seeing him evolving into a pocket passer.  Maybe with Norv for another year, that will change--

I would watch what we do in the draft in 2020 or so--if we grab a QB....

I

WOWWWWW

I actually don’t see Cam taking the max he can get.

Everyone knows that in the end, on the field, all he wants to do is win and he HATES losing.

Combine that with the fact that he has to be one of the top 5 money earners off the field, I see him giving up some money in his contract to build a better team around him since he knows he’ll more than make up for it off the field as he wins championships.

I know alot of people don't like it, but with the new emphasis on protecting the QB i think it could give us another decade of Cam unless he just wants to retire. That's assuming they afford him the same protections as every other QB of course.

I really think if the Panthers haven't at least made it back to the Super Bowl by the end of the 2020 season, they will cut bait and move on from Newton.  Good QB's on their rookie contracts (i.e. Wilson, Wentz) are the best way to make it deep in the playoffs, IMHO.

I have always thought this too. He took a friendly deal the first time. If he doesn’t have a SB win by the time his contract is up, I can see him taking a very friendly deal to get the pieces he needs.

It’s obvious that the highest paid QBs don’t win. He wants to win.

What I don't understand is why people like the OP actively root for our players to get larger more detrimental to the team contracts..... first and formost Im a Pathers fan, I want us to get as many great players as we can as cheap as we can.... The key to success for most teams is getting a team friendly QB contract.

Lol being realistic about someone that worked their ass off heading towards what is a certainty is “rooting for a cap hit against the team” whilst also hoping they take the team friendly deal in the same post. Wow. I can say I’ve got a head nod from Cam when yelling “KILLER CAMM” at him in Buckhead after embarrassingly going full fanboy so I got that bias going for me.
