This statement, which we see quite often around here, continues to baffle me. Do folks truly believe that these people. Who have worked their butts off for the majority of their lives getting to this point. Are really content with mediocrity?

These players, and coaches, have worked too dang hard, have too much pride, and way to much competitive spirit. To settle for mediocrity.

We are 51-29 over the last 5 years. And we have started this year 2-1 That does not strike me as mediocre in the least.

If you have never had back to back winning seasons, you are a mediocre franchise, or worse.

Inconsistent, or erratic,...IMO, not mediocre.

We have hosted NFCC games, we have been to two SB's, and were/are an expansion team.  Mediocre teams are floundering teams that always seem to bounce from 6-9 to 9-6, but never really wow anyone...again in my opinion.

First team that always comes to mind (and I'm normally only looking at the past 10 years or so) is the Lions.  Redskins can be lumped right in there too.

I don't think we get out of mediocre till we have multiple back to back winning seasons in a row (and playoff appearances of course in a row).      I mean, this is why every year the national media or everyone but Panthers fans doesn't give us a chance because we blow it as much as we are successful and you never know what to expect (except a lot of field goals and leads given up late in games).     I keep waiting on us to change this, and hopefully, THIS is the year we have back to back winning seasons.

So...if we have a winning record this year? Will we still be mediocre? How many winning seasons in a row will it take? I mean, how many will it take for you to lift that mediocre moniker?

IMO, the main reason our record is what it is? QB play. Collins had 1 winning record, Beuerlien had ZERO winning records. Jake had 3 winning records. Until Cam came along, those were our top 3 QB in franchise history. How can a team put together any type of consistency with that rag tag group.

Pre Cam, sure we were rather mediocre.

The Cam era? We appear to be trending up big time. The list is long for the things Cam has accomplished. But the 2 main misses? No SuperB owl wins, and no back-to-back winning seasons. We have a good shot at the latter this year. But that SB thingy is going to be a tough one.

IMO, Rivera, and Cam, are shattering that mediocre mentality.

Yeah of course if we have a winning season this year, go to playoffs, etc, that's a good start to getting out of the hole.   A big start.    Just getting rid of that monkey on the back stat, etc.   We just aren't there yet, is what I'm saying.

I hear ya, just look at it differently.

I could be wrong about this, but I doubt there are many teams that look at the schedule and mark down a W against the Panthers every year.  Maybe fans do, but I don't think that players and coaches do.

Just wouldn't think over the past 8-10 years players who play against us would refer to us as mediocre, but I could be wrong.

I don't think being mediocre means it's a W for teams, just "who knows what this team is this year" type of thing.    They can usually mark us down as a team that will keep them in the game the whole time lol, so it also isn't a L.

Pre Cam, yeah, we were pretty much mediocre.

However, Rivera, with help from Cam, is moving this team in the right direction. Nowadays, winning games, and making the Payoffs, is pretty much a yearly thing. We may not have reached the apex as of yet. But we are defiantly headed that way.

Again, I think that's more inconsistent vs. mediocre, but whatever....we seem to be getting better, especially if Ron would play the riverboat character just a little more often.

Nah, I think you hit it. Rivera has changed the Culture of this team. Opposing teams know they are going to play a physical team, that will not beat itself, and that will fight you til the end. We have sort of become a bully.

I absolutely believe that teams know they had better bring their big boy pants when they play us.

This train is chugging right along. And as long as Cam is the engineer, it should continue to pick up steam. The future is bright in Pantherland. At this point in time, and for the foreseeable future. We have left mediocre in the dust.

I believe the biggest reason we have been rather inconsistent through the years. Our QB play has been inconsistent. It is darn hard to win in the NFL. If you don't have you a decent QB, it is even more so. I mean dang. When Jake Delhomme is your franchise's best QB? And he only had basically 6 healthy years.

Fair enough but I guess we disagree.  The one thing we likely agree on is our desire to win aa fans.  Maybe this is the year of our first back to back winning seasons.  Only 7 more wins needed.  I just never see us go all in.  Us refusing to get a superior safety that is sitting there for the taking, and that would significantly improve our team is just more evidence of that and that's why I feel that we are content with competitive mediocrity.
