Opinions...will they break down and sign a decent safety

At the very least, I'd give Southward a shot and see how he does. I can't imagine he does any worse than Jones. I'd prefer to sign someone with starting experience, but we're limited by our cap space.

I think that's probably a lot more likely scenario than signing Eric Reid.

To me, the most likely thing is that they hand the keys over to Rashaan Gaulden and let him grow into the role. Anybody else that's signed will probably be for depth.

I'd welcome back Mike Mitchell, his physicality and Jackson's demeanor could help continue to solidify the secondary through this season. Colin Jones has NEVER been an answer outside ST's.

I'd like to see more Gaulden but given a lack of experience on the back end, we didn't have much choice on a short week. I hope we bring in some more experienced depth over the bye week.

Time to throw was key on the plays Jones was apart of, but sometimes better players make up for the times the DL can't get home to the QB, we need the coverage // rush hand in hand, not completely dependent.

If Adams went down we'd be SOL.

I don't think Tepper is going to micromanage either way.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Tepper asked Marty and Ron what their plan was at safety, moving forward, and offered his support, either way.

If I paid that kind of money for a football team, I'd at least want to be "in the know".

Valid.

Likewise, Rivera and Hurney probably both know they need to look good this year.

yep, and he's 38?  We have plenty of cap room to sign a safety.  It's doesn't have to be Reid.  We can easily find someone for 2 or 3 million this year who will be waaaaaay better than Jones.

I mean, is Jones really a safety at this point?

I tend to put guys like Jones in the same category as I do long snappers. I believe JJ Jansen has also played tight end in the past (not for us) but would you ever really want to see him in that role?

In this case, I'm 90% on Rivera's side.

The 10% is, yes, Jones is not a good player.

The 90% is even Josh Norman can't cover a receiver when the QB is given 6-7 seconds to throw the ball.

There are zero DE out there any better than what we have. There are tons of safety's out there better than Colin Jones

Not sure, but it's a HUGE hole on this team and could dictate success here.     We at least need someone average here.

Yep, I'm not looking for a superstar, just someone who is capable of not being a constant liability.  Our CB play has been much better than I thought it could be to start the year.  We could field a respectable secondary with another decent safety.

IMO, it's not fair to Jackson, Bradberry, & Adams to not give them someone else.

Oh yeah and to the fans...

I understand the importance of trying to find the answer on the roster and all that, but the answer at safety is absolutely not on the roster
