I'd like to see our D's stats by quarter.  Seems like we really clamp down in the 2nd half.  First half is where a lot of our issues are.

But the back end of the Panther D is my concern.

Safety and nickel are concerns but Bradberry has played great and Jackson will have his rookie moments but seems to have enough big plays to make up for it. TD coming back should help more than many think despite his older age, and I think the D still hasn’t really “clicked” under Washington. We’ll see what happens but I’m still optimistic about the D turning it on to top 10 or so.

Yes, our defense has looked bad so far, but there are reasons to be optimistic.

I think our defense has looked like they’ve been playing some tough offenses. Atlanta has got some serious talent on their roster, and the bengals had the best scoring offense in the league till yesterday.

time will tell on all accounts. Honestly the defense have been what I expected. safety is still and issue, big surprise there.

Turnovers won us the game yesterday b/c they were capitalized on. Good QBs are going to rape us. They get the ball out quick and when the secondary plays ten yards off, they'll nickel and dime up the field. If we pressed, there'd be no getting the ball out quick. You can't expect pressure on every play.

Fair enough, but those teams still had playmakers that are no slouches. JJ, Ridley, Sanu, Coleman, Eifert, Green for a half, Tyler Boyd and Gio. Some teams don’t have that muc fire power.

Both Atlanta and Cincinnati boasted top-10 offenses before they played the Panthers. We fared better against the Bengals than the Falcons, but IMO, the offenses have many similarities. 

Be aware that we still have to play five of the current top 10 in yards/game down the road (Pittsburgh, New Orleans (x2), Tampa Bay (x2), Washington and Detroit). 

Hopefully, the bye week will allow some introspection. Certainly, getting TD back in the mix can only help.

Also might have been different if Wakanda Obadass had played more than 19 snaps (as he will almost certainly do in future), or if Olsen  or TD had played...Hypotheticals aside, we won; that's what counts.

Exactly. Yesterday was actually a pretty good performance against a really good offense.

I feel like this was always going to be the case going into the season. 

 

Our offense is now going to be the reason we win games not the defense. The secondary will give up a lot of yards and TD is getting older. 

 

Cam and the offense have been getting better every game. Defense just needs to play good enough to get our offense the ball to score.

Don't have numbers by quarters, but here they are by halves.  Hope this helps get you organized:

Dallas -- net rushing 1H, 22; 2H, 72, 94 total; net passing 1H, 38, 2H, 100; 138 total (net yds 1H, 60; 2H, 172; 232 total)

Atl -- net rushing 1H 87; 2H, 83; 170 total; net passing 1H, 135; 2H, 137; 272 total (net yds 1H, 222; 2H, 220; 442 total)

Cinc -- net rushing 1H, 23; 2H, 43; 66 total; net passing 1H 174; 2H, 156; 330 total (net yds 1H, 197; 2H, 199; 396 total)

Not much to see here, to me, as the last 2 games, our D surrendered about equal yds 1H and 2H.   Against Dallas, we shut them down in the 1H, got a little loose in the second.

Right now, I like how we look relative to the rest of our division. Yeah, we lost to Atlanta, but I think we're a better team going forward. We're the only team that appears to be fielding a legitimate defense, even if it's been struggling as of late. Every offense is gonna be a damn buzz saw though, the key will be winning our home games. I'm hoping Tampa comes back to earth, but we saw glimpses of this last year with Jameis and they have a lot of playmakers on that side of that ball.

Yeah and you could say the same thing if Greg and Samuel were available on offense that we would have looked better too.  Injuries are apart of the game and everyone needs to stop making excuses why we won because this guy or that guy wasn't in the line up.

Furthermore, our offensive line dominated a damn good front four.  That was one of their strong points and CMC made them look like Swiss cheese.
