Turner Made a Clear Effort to Make a Point - It Worked... But I Still Didn't Like It

Norv called a great game and used CMC in a manner the other team did not expect.  That is the type of gameplanning we havent had in a long time.  Now teams also have to plan for CMC to gash them on the ground because he is more than a glorified slot receiver.  So the return was both instant gratification (by beating CIN) and longer term (having teams to plan around multiple uses of one player).  Making CMC a multi-dimensional weapon means more opportunities will arise for Thomas, Moore, etc. - and hopefully they can and will take advantage of them.

An offensive coordinator doing something the other team doesn't expect?

Is that allowed?

Exaclty...the more he becomes a headache for the defense to gameplan for and focus on the more it opens up things for other guys..we're watching norv setting the other teams up and using different game plans. The offense has gotten better each week...they keep improving like this and by the time we're midway into the season we are going to be really scary

Am I the only one who felt that there was a clear and concerted effort to NOT pass the ball to CMC throughout most of this game?

He only had 2 catches on 2 targets, and I'm pretty sure they were both very late in the game if I remember correctly.

Now I get it, they wanted to put tape out there that showed we don't NEED to pass the ball to him 10+ times a game to be dangerous, and it worked... but at the same time I don't think anyone could say that right now he is still the most dangerous weapon in our passing game (even if he's just a decoy).

I don't think he really even ran many (any) routes during the first 3 quarters, which honestly I felt was a way to keep Cam from checking it down to him a bunch of times, and while it worked, I didn't like it as just the threat of him out there catching passes changes the way a defense attacks our offense and because of that I don't think we should ever go a quarter without him getting a couple targets in the passing game.

Long story short... the tape is out there of CMC having a monster game without being utilized in the passing game, teams have to prepare for him as a legit RB now... I never want to see another game like that again, he MUST be utilized in the passing game and make defense account for him on each and every play to open up the rest of the offense.

Okay... now bash me for being a "bad fan" for complaining after we won by double digits, I'm clearly a terrible fan..........

I wouldn't call you a bad fan, just a dumb one.

Honestly, given how stout Cincy's rush defense has been, I'm thinking Turner was banking on Cincy game planning for us to throw it to CMC 15 times.  They never expected we'd hand him the ball right up the gut 28 times --- worked like a charm as CMC gashed them over and over again.  Kind of wish we would have had this type of chess playing mentality going into SB 50.

my man...this closes the thread.

peace

Spot on. What about that stiffarm coming through the tackles?!? He put son on his back! His NFL transition is a thing of beauty. He couldn't do that last year. He beasted.

Last year plays were too predictable....trying to run up the middle with 8 in the box...and not a sliver of daylight.  No, that didn't work.

On twitter I posted something in jest earlier:

Week 1:  Panthers had 2 TDs

Week 2:  3 TDs

Week 3:  4 TDs

I kind of like that progression!!

Hell yeah...I like that they've shown  how versatile they can be week to week. We're a second half of the season team anyways so us starting to click this early is a great sign

You're overthinking it bro. We've established his threat as a receiver. We don't have to throw him the ball 8-10 times a game to make teams respect him that way.

What can teams do if they have to respect cam as a passer And runner and Cmc as a runner And receiver. It’s just too much for a defense to cover the things that Batman and Robin can do!
