Collin Jones made Eric Reid go from unlikely to possible

Lots of people's jobs are contingent on not using their workplace as a platform for political/social protest. Honestly, I'd say that's true for the vast majority of people.

I wouldn't want my business to have protests. I would serve Trump as much as I would Obama. In business I only support one party and that's the green one.

Same. R and D money spends the same.

What a lot of people seem to overlook is that if protests impact the revenue of the league (and that's not to say they do, I'm just saying IF they do), that's not going to impact that player's contract. They're still going to take home the same amount. It's the owner who will be negatively impacted by the actions of the player. Not to cry about billionaires losing a few bucks, but still it's the owner carrying all of the financial risks of protest.

The thing is that there's plenty of players on NFL rosters who have protested. If the league was blackballing protesters then there wouldn't be. Yes, Kaep is the poster child of the protesters, but Denver offered him $9M afterwards in free agency and he said thanks, but no thanks. That's not getting blackballed. Reid plays a position where the market was soft this off-season and he was offered at least one contract that he turned down. That's not being blackballed.

I honestly don't pick a side on this issue. I respect the rights of the players to exercise their 1st Amendment rights but I also respect the rights of the owners to not allow players to use their workplace as a platform of protest in a manner they don't agree with. If we signed Eric Reid tomorrow I'd celebrate it.

And the reason he turned them down isn't because of some moral stance. He did it because he knew he could make much more money doing it. I'm sure Nike is paying him more than 9 million and he has to do nothing for it. Even if he loses his lawsuit he will still make millions speaking to people who pay him to do so.

I don’t care what side someone is on with the whole anthem protest thing, there is just no way any sane, logical fan of the panthers would not welcome Reid with open arms at this point. He is 1000x better than Colin Jones.

CJ is so bad it actually makes me feel like grabbing some pads and walking on the Panthers field for a tryout.

I hope Tepper is at least somewhat open to the idea.

100% having nothing to do with anthem protests or the guy off the field, here's how I see it:

Reid HAS had offers and visits and has turned them down, just like Boston and many other safeties had to do initially in a dead market. Teams just dont value that position this year the same way that these players are valuing themselves. Reid would absolutely be an upgrade, but there's a price he's worth and if he won't accept it then it's not a good move to overpay him out of desperation. I don't know all the exact details of what Reid would and wouldn't accept and neither does nobody else, but it's not like he's just sitting there waiting for a team to call offering vet. min... Him and Dez Bryant are in similar positions now. And while Reid would be a big upgrade for our team, he's really not a great safety or great player. He's worse than Harper was when we signed him.

Do you understand how bad he is at QB?

He’s a top 20 Nfl QB. That’s a fact. Jimmy was made the highest paid QB in history at the time of his deal after 5 subpar games. fug outta here.

Its backups pulling close to 10 mill. How many contracts has Sam Bradford had?

He may be top 20, but the reality is that every team in the league either 1) has a top 10 QB, 2) has a guy they think can become a top 10 QB, or 3) they're looking for #2 or #3.

Where does Kaep fit into that situation? Realistically, he fits in as a stopgap for #2. Word is that he wants to be aa starter, period. And he wants $10M+ per year for it. Would he be willing to keep the seat warm? I just think Kaep has made himself unattractive to NFL teams for a variety of reasons and yes, I think his protests certainly factor into that but I think it's far over simplifying a complicated situation to try to say that it's THE reason why he isn't on an NFL roster.

:crying: So your saying he's just as good as Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Mathew Stafford, and Dak Prescott? Also Sam Bradford is better than Kap and stats and longevity proves that.

I would doubt it. It's like I told @RoaringRiot earlier this year, Reid is being blackballed like a motherfuger.

He would make our secondary markedly better.

In all seriousness we would be Legion of Doom good with Eric Reid. Dontae Jackson has been better than advertised so far,  and with Adams coaching everyone on the back end our aging pas rush would probably reappear

Colins career passer rating is higher than Sam’s...who was just benched for a rookie who ain’t that good.
