Run game

I told everyone who said Anderson would be our workhorse RB leading up to this season that they were crazy and that CMC would absolutely be our workhorse RB, but even I didn't anticipate how little Anderson would be used to this point. Still waiting to see why we signed him. He's probably honestly wondering the same. Though he didn't do himself any favors in the least with those two drops on the one drive where he was featured, though I have no idea why CMC wasn't in the game on a drive where we exclusively threw the ball.

I'm not sure.  Because of the way we play i.e.  Slow as fug,  It's not going to be a lot of carries regardless.  I think more of the intermediate passes will be available this week because of all the checkdowns to CMC we have used at the start.  Teams are going to get tired of giving a free 5-10 yards every checkdown.

We are averaging 5 yards per carry  rushing this year and it's not smoke and mirrors with Cam average 8 yards and everyone else averaging 3.8. However teams are still box stacking unless we are in obvious pass situations.  Single high safety is the predominate coverage and unless we show we consistently beat people on it, I don't see us being successful with he ole ground and pound.

I'm thinking  45% run 55 % pass.  Unfortunately I think Cam is still going to be our leading rusher this game.

Right I wonder how much the oline issues have adapted our play-calling...based on what we've done the first couple weeks I wish we'd go more uptempo, hurry up... particularly if the offense starts to lull or when we get their defense on their heels to keep them from subbing out

I think injuries have had a huge impact on our play calling.  But that's not all, I think the fact that we are changing up how we are doing things have also slowed things down.

Right now, we are playing with guys that barely know the plays or are relatively new to their positions, as well as incorporating more of the short, quick-strike passing game than we've ever used before.  So, at this point in the season, I think the coaches are more interested in making sure everyone does things right rather than doing it fast.  Because these guys are still figuring things out, the coaching staff wants to limit mistakes. Once they really settle in, I think we'll finally see them speed things up.  That's also when I think you'll see the offense open up a bit more.  It's frustrating in the short term, but should pay off big down the road.

Though the first game we never let CJ touch the ball more than twice in a row no matter how well he is playing. It’s a damn shame really

Yeah, I wish CJ was getting the ball more as well.  My guess is that they are trying to establish CMC into the full spectrum of the offense to a degree that it becomes second nature for Cam to look for him when things start to break down, much like he has done in the past with Olsen.  Cam's natural tendency is to extend plays and try to make a big play downfield before looking to dump the ball off, so IMO, this is just an attempt to get him used to looking for the quick dump-off earlier.

I do think that as we start to see the offense open up more, we'll see more of CJ.  But I also wonder if the fact that he is only on a one year contract and likely looking for a bigger payday than we can afford next year is causing the coaches limit his impact on the offense.  They want the offense to be built around Cam and CMC, not a guy that is only here on a one year rental.

Totally agree and really it makes sense...I'm actually fine with them using the short quick passes... with cmac, Moore, samuels and even wright they purposely brought in guys that can run after the catch as opposed to the twin towers approach that was obviously not working. What I think is funny is so many have said Cam can't operate a brady style passing offense, go through his reads and take what the defense is giving him...and now that he is for some reason it's an issue. I think you're right and once we hit our stride more of the deep passes and aggressive calls will be there. The early bye is a blessing in disguise if we can make it there  2-1 and give the team a chance to regroup and hopefully get some pieces back( I think samuels and even Byrd could have big impacts for getting open downfield). I don't care if cmac catches 20 passes tomorrow..win pretty, win ugly. Just win baby!!
