The 2 worst teams in the league have former Panther coordinators as their coaches

Rivera is a much better coach than this board wants to give him credit for.  His record would be even better if he didn't coach in the hardest division in football.

And the Belichick analogy is apt.  None of his former assistants have had much success either.  (Also, as an aside, don't forget Rivera is 2-0 against Belichick).

Having said that, just like Belichick having Brady, Rivera having Cam certainly helps.  The best coach in the world isn't going to win with Brian Hoyer or Jimmy Clausen.

Bottom line is, one day in the future when both Cam and Rivera are gone, we will fully appreciate them for how good they are.

I'm not going to pile on Ron Rivera in this thread, but let's be real.  He showed up here and his welcome wagon gift was Cam Newton, followed by Luke Kuechly the following year.  Much of his success has been as a result of those two.  When these coordinators leave for HC jobs, they are heading to teams mostly devoid of talent at the key positions.  Unless they are immediately drafting two studs like we got in 2011 and 2012, then they gonna fail.  At least, right away.  If they are given time to build a team/roster, then they can either prove their worth or be a bust.

All of the coordinators that left were worried more about their HC carriers than the seasons they left so I don't feel sorry for them. Maybe Wilks can come back and teach DB. I'm sure McD will be coaching under Reid or someone else. I doubt he comes back.

Rivera is a mediocre head coach, but a great defensive mind/coach.    I'm sure the DC's we've had just call the plays that he wants ran.    When they leave, they are doing their own thing and it isn't as good.    It's his way and no other way, and it's probably the same for the offense (minus when Chud was here).

Sean McDermott and Steve Wilks are high on the list of next coach to be fired according to Vegas. The only other Rivera coordinator to get a job was Chud and we saw how that worked out in Cleveland.

Can we draw any conclusions about Ron Rivera from this or do you think this is just a coincidence?

too soon to tell on with these guys but some are just better coordinators than Head Coaches...but they have to try to find out...

This may not be a popular opinion, but this is confirmation for me that the real brains and motivation behind our defense is Rivera. I believe he let's his DCs add their own flavor, but our defense succeeds and fails on Rivera's command.

It's Rivera's team. And the fact that three former coordinators are struggling to put together even a mediocre team is credit to Rivera's genius. Don't get me wrong, I know he makes stupid decisions in time management and which players to start on a given Sunday. I know he struggles to get his players motivated for the start of the season and after bye weeks at times. But I daresay he's the best coach we've had in our 24 seasons as a franchise.

Yeah I agree. We forget how far we can fall as a franchise when looking at teams like Cleveland, Bills ect. Rivera is fairly steady and we know that we are at least going to be competitive every year. I'd put him in the category of Mike Tomlin. Fans want something new and shiny but they are solid coaches that are usually going to get their team mid tier or higher in a given season.

Now, we do have Cam...who by himself keeps us competitive on offense.

I think it should serve as a reminder that coaching winning NFL teams isn't easy and you can down the list of bad teams that have revolving doors at head coach. I'll criticize Ron when he deserves it but overall I do believe he's one of the better coaches in this league and we're lucky to have him. A lot of what teams saw in the coordinators that have been hired from here was mostly Ron's doing.
