I've said this before. If you really want to get rid of Jake, hope for an uncapped 2010. That way, the Panthers can cut him, accelerate all that bonus money into 2010 and it won't affect the Panthers cap at all. 'Cause there won't be a cap! Then he would be off the books completely in 2011 when (hopefully) the cap is reintroduced.

The downside is that the cap is gone forever and the Panthers become the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NFL.

You know what's wrong with Jake?

It's simple. Year before last he was leading the league when he wrecked his elbow in his throwing arm. He had Tommy John surgery on it and was the first NFL quarterback to come back from it, thanks to a crap load of hard work on his part.

Hard work that most of us would never be willing to put in.

And then he comes back and leads his team to a 12-4 regular season record. Then, he has the worst game of his life, in the playoffs, on his frikkin birthday. He walks off the field to the boos of the fans. And the questions in the media. He plays it up as short memory, I'll get over it, I'll do better for my team and my fans.

But nobody will let it die. Everyone makes him the laughingstock of the league. Fans turn on him when he gets a contract extension from a team that believes in him and realizes how far he has taken them.

And the team's fans hound him throughout the offseason, pre-season and opening game. And that opening game he lays another egg, giving many fans just what the hell they had been hoping for.

He's a guy who busted his ass to make it in this league, riding the bench, playing in Europe and finally taking a shot on a frikkin expansion franchise that the year before had set the record for most consecutive losses. He studied hard, he played hard, he kept the faith and when he got the chance, he pulled off a miracle in his first game. And took that team to the Super Bowl.

And he still gets treated like poo by much of the fanbase. Yanno what? It sure would be hard to get fired up and motivated to take the hits and play the game for a bunch of arm-chair emos who have never put half as much effort into anything they've done as he has.

Go ahead, kick him when he's down. He's our guy, we can abuse him however we like. But until someone gets to pulling for him to win, it's just one lone guy against the league.

Lots of truth in this post. I thought the fans showed a lot of restraint in not booing the team against the Redskins. He didn't give them as many reasons but it has to hurt confidence to hear that. Loved the way that game finished with him getting cheers. It does seem that he is grabbing more game balls than before. He knows the end is near.

Just because Jake worked hard to recover from surgery doesnt mean he has recovered. He is a shell of a QB he used to be. If a new staff comes in after this year, he will be riding the bench. Then if he decides to stay, he will be cut. If Jake leads this team to a 12-4 record, pigs will start flying! What has anyone seen in him to think he will turn it around? I think he has lost his arm as well as his heart, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd have to say that the run against DeAngelo Hall showed he still has the heart. Touchdown passes to King and Hall, as well as the two-point conversion last game to Smitty shows he still has an arm. And I've seen him wing it down the field a fair distance, too (of course the receiver hadn't made it that far yet...)

Look, he's still got it, or is getting it back. We'll see better this week and improvement in weeks to come. No one can debate that he plays his best games against the best teams... and we've got a lot of those teams coming up. So let's just watch and see.

But do us all a favor: The guy is in a Panthers uniform, he's trying to win the game, cheer for the guy, would ya? Would it hurt? Or is there some kind of validation that you need in your life to be proved that someone more talented than you in a sport can suck?

instead of starting a new thread I will piggyback here....

I like Jake, always have...however has anyone else noticed this and last season Jake seems to less Jake-like? I am not talking about play but more his attitude. Jake use to be in your face, crying, whinning, bitching, moaning......from pregame to post game...every down inbetween. What? Gross was called for a false start? Old Jake would throw a fit to the ref. Opposing fans hated it but I felt it actually served a purpose to his team. Now, Jake always looks medicate and sad sitting on the bench before kickoff and outside a couple huge plays late in the game or his every day errors....he doesn't come off as emotionally involved each snap. I use to think his overraction and involvement to his teammates use to serve a purpose even if it was annoying....

I believe he has lost his 'love for the game'

He is simply going through the motions and picking up paychecks now, still professional, but the fan & media backlash has left him less invovled and less in love with playing.

Don't get me wrong. He still tries his hardest and takes defeats badly (along with playing poorly), it just appears that he does not enjoy himself out there anymore.
