Antonio Brown rumor?

No they wouldn't. They'd happily take 1st round for him. There is no receiver in the NFL worth 2 first rounds, especially a 30 year old WR. Mack is a defensive end who is a monster, DE will always make more money than receivers, and carry more value.

If Brown is traded this season - it will be for  1 st or early 2nd and swap of a late round pick. Also his cap hit.... its only 8 million for 2018.

There are 2 factors to be considered in the cap hit. The 8 million is the Steelers' hit with him on the roster.  If traded, the Steelers retain the cap hit for all signing and roster bonuses paid and the prorated portions accelerate onto the cap now. In other words, the team trading for Brown would have to manage only a 915K cap hit this year, the Steelers would get a hit over 28 Million. A lot of teams may be prompted to ask based on the rumor but a trade is unlikely UNLESS there are big names in return. Mack's trade is different since he was at the end of a contract leaving no hit with the Raiders.

B. We couldn't afford AB even if he was interested in coming here. $17mm a yr avg. We'd have to cut Luke and KK to make that happen, or some other dramatic combo of talent

C. What can AB provide that CMC/Samuel didn't do already this past wknd? I know he's the best in the game but we need OL, DE and secondary help to make this a better team

B. The hit for a team trading for Brown would be his salaries, Steelers keep the hit for bonuses. That lowers the average hit to the $9-10 M per year (maybe even less)

C. Totally agree

Not Kidding... I dreamed that Cam was passing a deep ball to Antonio Brown this summer...

Shortly after they were working out. It's not outside the realm of possibility.

It is because the Steelers would go over the cap by $14M by trading him. That means they also need to trade or renounce the tag on LeVeon Bell just to get under the cap. They aren’t going into a full rebuild in the middle of a season.

I’d send over 2 1st’s in a heartbeat.

His contract is actually semi team friendly given the fact he’s a true number 1 and if you compare it to what WR’s got this offseason.

I’d literally just call Pittsburgh and say name your price outside of Cam, CMC, Moore and Moton on offense and Luke on defense.

Yeah, team-friendly for the team trading for him. Not team-friendly for the Steelers who'd then be eating $28.16M in dead money from all his guaranteed money and signing bonus that accelerate to this year's cap to trade him. Never going to happen.

I love this thought just as much as every other Panther fan, AB, and Cam.

If AB were to leave the Burgh, I do honestly think the Panthers would be his first choice. Having Cam, having Tepper, and having a great city for him to raise a family I think it would be a done deal. Tepper would pay him out of his pocket if need be to get him here. The locker room doesn’t seem to be selfish, these guys won’t to win and win now. Luke is a concussion away from retiring, Cam isn’t getting any younger or accurate. The team has its elder veterans that have few years left in the tank and some exciting youngins that need to learn the culture in Carolina.

AB did post a Instagram or Snapchat of him in a Panthers Helmet a while ago. I wouldn’t count it out completely but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it either cause youre going to have to breathe to read all the other posts.

All money is dead money silly goose.

So there are no options in which it could be less of a hit for the Steelers? 2021 or 2022 when he’s a free agent...but will he be prime AB then??

Great discussion piece because money makes the world go round and the Steelers are going to eat that much money for the GOARecieversintheleague. Like to hear more thoughts on this. Would he be worth pursuing in 4 years? Can we afford someone of this magnitude or do we forget about AB and start trying to find someone with a skill set like him.

Or do we just give DJ  Moore more chances?

Was watching a show on FS1 last night, I didn't know AB went to college in NC for 1 year. It was a small tech school forgot the name. So he has history in NC.

Still a pipedream though. We had a chance to get a elite WR for cheap in a trade and we didn't even show interest. What makes you think we will trade for a expensive elite WR?

Not exactly, only money that is dead money is guaranteed money which Brown's contract has a hell of a lot of. So yeah, the team getting him would only be paying him peanuts due to the Steelers having to foot the brunt of the bill, but the question is why would they ever even think about doing that? Having him on the team and IR'ing him every year is better than trading (or cutting him) and letting him go play for another team while you still have to write out massive checks to him.

As for any other options, not really. I don't think they'd trade him or cut him in 2018 or even in 2019 when his trade/release would still be $21.120M in dead money ($7.040M in 2019, $14.080M in 2020 if after June 1st).

Trading/Cutting him post-June 1st, 2020 is likely their best chance and even then, they'd still be eating $14.080M in dead money but can split it up into $7.040M in 2020 and $7.040M in 2021. That's essentially what we did when we cut Junior Galette in 2015 after just signing him to a massive extension in 2014.
