Funchess played 66 snaps. Moore played only 17.

If he doesn’t know the playbook, work around it. Him and Wright should never leave the field except to get a breather if needed. DJ is our big play guy and Wright is the security blanket in place of Olsen. Funchess isn’t a horrible receiver, but he isn’t a big play receiver. Jennings called it right yesterday. Funch waited for the ball instead of going to get it. That’s how he plays. Yes, he caught it. But if he went and got it, he could have made a bigger play. He doesn’t have a big play mentality. That’s fine, but not as our #1. (#1 in snaps)

Ron and John Fox come from the same school of thought. Play the vets and don't use your brain.

I swear NFL coaches do the dumbest poo sometimes. They need just an average football fan on their staff who, during games, will say "Hey coach, this is a little stupid, maybe try this." Whether it's not running it in the Super Bowl when you have Marshawn Lynch on the goal line, not designing plays to get David Johnson the ball, or trotting out mediocre talent like Funchess and Torrey Smith instead of playing DJ Moore. We can all see that Moore needs more play time but for some reason Ron can't see it (or doesn't want to).

After watching Smith have that drive killing false start. 1-2 drops.  Then that long post route where Cam was off BUT Smith didnt even try to correct and make a play on the Ball.  Just kept on the post on the straight line while the DBs corrected made a play on the ball almost picking it off

This while our 1st round WR is sitting on the Bench.  Who one of his strength coming out was making plays on the ball after playing with shotty QBs in college

I wanted to throw the remote through the TV

Then seeing ATL rookie WR eat our lunch snd hearing the announcers remind everyone thats their 1st round pick just poured salt in the wound.

The long ball game is tough to play when your O-line is as suspect as ours is. They did an okay job yesterday, but that was because of the check down passes to CMC figured heavily into the game.

Long passes need a little time to develop. And I'm not seeing much speed out of Smith or the "sneaky fast" Funchess.

This is a big issue. Funchess has zero big play ability, just like this offense.

Only having Moore in on 17 snaps when he has shown to have a real spark on the limited number of opportunities needs to change.

Did these 17 snaps include his return duties

If so, how many times was he put there with Cam?

Nobody in the universe is lobbying for Funchess as the long-term number one solution. I believe that explains why the team would invest a first-round choice on a dynamic receiver.

Also worth noting the curve for learning all 3 positions (x/z/y).  The staff is asking Moore to master all three, so I’m willing to give this a little more time.

2017: Devin Funchess had 3 drops on 66 catchable passes for a 4.55 drop rate. His 3 drops ranked tied for 6th best among WRs with 80+ targets.

I think that it's pretty disingenuous of you to say that Funchess has "zero big play ability" when you've seen him make big plays. No he isn't what we think Moore is, but they are entirely different receivers at different points on the learning curve.

I agree that Moore needs more snaps, but not at Devin's expense. That would be pretty stupid in my estimation.

He’s never been a big play receiver. He struggled mightily in 2016 with drops. He improved upon that last year considerably, and was in the top 10 in that category.

Perhaps there is validity to the run blocking critique. I’d honestly have to take a little closer look at it. I don’t think there’s any critique about his toughness, he played through a lot of pain last year and played at a pretty high level.

I concern myself with how players are trending more than a full career sample of statistics. Again, he’s decent. He’s not dynamic, but he provides a valuable service and at a reasonable cost, he may be worth keeping around.
