We played like poop and still almost came back from a big hole, on the road, against a divisional rival...

We played like poop on defense. Cam was lights out and our banged up OL played as well as we could've hoped.

Unfortunately, our D playing like poop vs. certain teams and schemes has been commonplace for the last couple of years. Kind of like how Wade Phillips drew up the blueprint on how to shutdown Shula's offense, the Saints and Falcons have been doing the same thing to Ron's defense. We're just fortunate that not many teams have the pieces in place to execute it, but we're unfortunate that the two best equipped teams in the league just happen to be division rivals.

I'll give Cam and CMC a pass, and the OL did adequate I'll give you those... But Torrey's false starts, LaFell, I mean Funchess' first half was bad, and those dropped passes by CJ Anderson were terrible. Ian Thomas also had a costly drop. If you want me to nitpick further, that last pass could have been caught too. Granted, DJ was double covered and the defender got in front of him, but he was surprised as hell he got both hands on it and just simply dropped it. I can't blame him too much, because it was only like the 4th or 5th time he's touched the ball in a game this regular season, which is a laughable folly in itself by the coaching staff.

No argument on the procedural penalities and some costly drops, though Ian's drop ended up not hurting us. He had a nice grab just a couple plays later on 3rd down to keep the chains moving and we ultimately put that one in the end zone.

The drop by Funchess in the redzone going for a cute one handed catch and his sideline drop on 3rd down killing a drive hurt for sure though.

Even when we won 15 games in the regular season, we lost a game in ATL. Not worried.

Huh? Since that season WE HAVE NOT WON a game in ATL. More importantly we are 2- 5 against them since back to 2015.

Why is that not something to worry about?

Could argue it hurt us due to more time coming off the clock when time was very valuable at that point. Had Thomas pulled in that first one we could’ve possibly had an extra minute there at the end

All fairness Tevin Coleman is a beast and some have argued he's better than Freeman. Sarkisian let him loose.

Bernard is nowhere near the threat that Coleman was their running game won't gash us.  This will be about defending Dalton's passing. Granted he's enjoyed 2 good games to start the year, but the 108.5 QB rating he shows after those 2 is not sustainable, IMO.  His career QB rating was only 88.7 after 7 years -- he will revert to the mean, which is well established.  Our D has had a loud wake-up call, and will respond with a more typical effort at home.

Another thing: i haven't read a shout out to our patchwork OL, and they need one.  The new guy, Clark, did a fine job at LT, being here less than a week, and Van Roten continues his steady blocking at LG, which Nobody saw going into game 1.

Atlanta was favored by 6, won by 7.  No big deal.  Despite dropped passes and a poor game by the DL, we were in it til the last play.  We'll be fine.

And about the OL, I might add that all the fears about Amini getting the nod from RR were unfounded.  He only saw the field for 4 snaps on ST.  The 5 guys that started on the OL (Clark, Van Roten, Kalil, Larsen, and Moton) played EVERY snap -- haven't seen that in ages.  With the success they exhibited (2 sacks allowed, on a heavy passing day for Cam), and a 6.7 rushing average on 18 runs, we should see no changes there.

CMC needs to be in every play not just passing downs. He needs to lineup at slot more and he can when CJ Anderson is in the game. He can be our Jarvis Landry that also runs the ball. Also the two back set has confused Dallas and Atlanta so far, so run more of it until teams can stop it.

Even if CMC is never great as a pure RB up the middle (he still can, IMO) he is one of the best short range receivers in the NFL, so we should utilize that more.

Most of us had this as a loss in our season W-L projections.  I'm a homer and super optimistic and predict 12-4 or 11-5, and I had this as a loss.

In a division as good as ours, it's pretty hard to assume even the best teams will sweep division opponents.  They know exactly how to scheme for our weaknesses.  We've not always done such a great job at specifically scheming for theirs.  (Hope this is changing under Norv...., he made (gasp! ) half-time adjustments and the O (apart from drops) looked quite a lot more effective at moving the ball for big chunks in the 2nd half.)

So, we lost a game a lot of us expected the team to lose.

Yes it stinks.  But I don't think it's the end of the world.  Keep Pounding!

I honestly thought if we lost the game it would be because of the O-line. never thought it would be on the defense and receivers. was proud of how the O-line played considering.

    • I don't know--they represent the entire body of players and this be determined, if it got to that point, by a vote of all veterans and rookies who are part of the union.  If the elite players are getting 50% of all cap increases, the non-elite players with shorter careers might want a bigger slice of the pie and vote accordingly.  To say that the Union would not go for it is not something I agree with--it would be the union that proposes it--based on a proposal and a majority vote.  If the veteran players vote for an equal distribution framework, then all 53 on a roster benefit from a cap increase that is applicable to the entire team.  Not sure how labor laws might be impacted...
    • Carter, Graham, or Walker and I might roll the dice hoping Walker is around later.  If Hunter is there at 8, we are about to get a really nice haul for trading back.
    • Oh well. That's his fault if he wants to eat up all the cap space and have no protection as a result. A big part of why Brady has all those rings is that he generally took team friendly deals. Not that he wasn't making a mega ass ton of money, but he wasn't leaving his team cap strapped due to his contract while Peyton Manning generally tried to negotiate for every dime he could get forcing the Colts to make tough decisions.
