Internet sleuth?

No, you were being a dick. (And it’s ok, I don’t mind. It’s good fodder for someone who can’t sleep. But let’s not play the SHEESH card, bro.)

You think Rivera is a solid coach? Good on you.  I agree. He is solid. And he has flaws. And no, I didn’t mean to lump you in with those who call for his head on a weekly basis. If that’s how you took it, I’m sorry about that.

No, I wasn't. I have no reason to.

See, for me to be a dick to you, you have to have given me a reason. Disagreeing with me isn't a reason. Acting like an a--hole is, but you and I have had discussions where we disagreed before and I didn't see you do that.

What I set out to point out was that Tepper has far greater resources than us. Doesn't mean he's infallible, but it does mean he gets a lot bigger benefit of the doubt than the average fan. If I came across bad in that, you have my apology. It certainly wasn't my intent.

As to Ron,  think Rivera can be a good coach. He's flawed, but they all are. Now, this particular offseason, he corrected one of his biggest flaws by dropping his loyalty to Mike Shula. I'm hoping he does better in general because he's as nice a guy as you can find, and you want guys like that to succeed.

Do I have faith that he will? Jury's still out. I know he had way more success under Gettleman then he had under his first go-round with Hurney. and you do have to evaluate the full package just as much as you have to evaluate the individuals within it. We'll see how the future goes.

I'm hoping for the best, but still iffy on exactly what to expect just yet.

All good my man.

He certainly likes talk to the press. About hot topics. I don’t like it, but who cares.

Win games.

So...we go from an owner who rarely talked to the press, and folks complained. To an owner who is not afraid to talk to the press, and folks complain.

I've been a Lions fan for over 50 years, and the Ford family rarely talked to the press. Been a Panther fan for 25ish years, and JR rarely talked to the press. Now we have Tepper, and he talks to the press. This may take some getting used to.

I was waiting for Mister to say the quote was about the first half. I'm surprised it took him so long.

Fact is he didnt pay attention during the game and didn't bother to look at the numbers until I posted them. Not until then did it occur to him he could make an excuse by adding more poo he pulled out of his ass.

But he was talking about second quarter! Good grief that's sad and predictable

I expect a guy who's willing to spout off like he is is going to get plenty of attention from a quote / hot take hungry press.

Tepper is still in the honeymoon phase here, but I've read enough about him to know he's got a serious edge. I have little doubt there's going to come a time when he offends somebody, and quite possibly a lot of people, either by something he says or by a football decision he makes.

Me? I doubt I'll care. I also just want to see a winning team.

You can't please everybody. Chances are you actually offend more people when you try.

You might want to go back and check who wrote that post you're referencing there, slick :)

As long as it's not insulting Peyton Manning with a pie chart or crying uncontrollably, I'm good. :shades:

The Panthers.com article says they were nine first down pass attempts before the two minute.

Unless my old brain is failing me, I’ve got the number at seven.

Again, who the hell cares. But accuracy matters, and one of us is wrong. May very well be me.

Well, time to get some sleep. Enjoyed it guys.

This. See, this is why I’m even in this debate.

Context:

In a similarly low scoring 17-3 win over Tampa in Wk8 2017, Carolina ran 23 pass plays. (One game sample, but a fair comparative example)

That’s more than 9. More than double.

Hell, I don’t even give a damn anymore. But the premise that they were pass happy before halftime last week is flawed.

Context? You cherry picked a game where we passed 23 times in the 1st half to downplay that we actually did pass more than we ran in the 1st half last week.

Were the number of drives the same? Were the number of 1st down plays the same? Were they stopping the run, so we did pass more. No two games will be the same.

We are known as a run the ball even if you stop us team. So when we start the 1st half, of the 1st game, throwing the ball. That is note worthy.

And I absolutely don't understand that just because Tepper noticed that a running team passed on 1st down. Is some kind of referendum on Rivera. IMO, that is quite the stretch.

Well, one of the reasons the league wanted to him was for the coming CBA negotiations.

Having read some of his past comments, that could get...interesting.

I would have associated that more with Shula vs Turner than Rivera, honestly.

The best way I could describe how I feel about Rivera right now would be to say that I'm rooting for him. I'm well aware of his pros and cons, and while the latter won't go away, I want to see the former outweigh them.

If that doesn't work out, then maybe we're having a different conversation. I'll say this much though. Everybody expected this season to be an audition. And while they're probably right, the "Steeler way" that Tepper talks about does include patience, so who knows?

So.....yea. I read this article earlier today, and it didn’t indicate that Tepper was only talking about the first half. That was shoe-horned into the Panthers.com piece.

PFT: “Tepper noted that the Panthers called more passes on first down in Week One than they typically did in past years, and he said analytics had shown that’s a wise approach.”

It occurred to me later let PFT didn’t include that important bit of information about the first half. Thus, I looked at the 60 minute sample. If he was speaking ONLY about the first 30 minutes, there might be some validity to it, though there is still some discrepancy between what Panthers.com is reporting and what the PBP game log shows.

Bad job by me, equally bad job by PFT.

No cherry picking. I went out of my way to find a game that didn’t show bias in favor of my position:
