It seems the Shula Defense Squad hasn't disappeared after all.

They've just ordered new t-shirts.

This has literally nothing to do with Shula and everything to do with individuals who simply repeat what some other person says without thinking first.

Despite recent trends facts are still facts.

Really, ask yourself: what good comes out of him saying this in print, team website or otherwise?

I’m not bent out of shape over, but I’m also not prepared to throw an goddamn uptown parade over it.

I think hes just talking because hes being asked questions. I doubt he was doing anything but answering on emotion without specifically analyzing it.

It's not a huge deal but it is noticable

If this is how Tepper plans to behave while things are going well, this might be a long, shitty marriage.  Most people here don't want to hear that, because they like that he dances and they like that he hates Donald Trump, but throwing shade at the coaches is a childish move.  If you want to do that behind closed doors, fine.  It's your organization.  Doing it via the media is ridiculous.

My takeaway is that Tepper is just a typical football fan without much more knowledge about what hes looking at than any other fan. He just owns the team.

I'm just glad je1005 was quick to look at the numbers before this got ingrained as a fact. We know it would have snowballed without so much as a thought about its validity

If you make time, assuming you aren’t a complete moron, you can do your own analytics on your own team. Yep. As a fan, you can do this. Most of you can’t, or won’t, or just don’t feel like it.

Sure.....It helps to have played, and to have a foundational understanding of what to look for in cut-ups, but the data and film are readily available to the public. Put in some time—it’s liberating to gain insight.  (I have 3 kids and a plethora of obligations...I get it’s not easy to budget time for this, but it’s fun and highly instructive whenever possible)

Dude, nothing against your skills at internet sleuthing from outside sources, but effectively speaking here's how it breaks down.

We're talking about a guy who just paid over two and a quarter billion to buy a team. This is a guy who had to be smart enough to make eleven billion so he could afford that kind of expense. This also means that he has a lot more riding on being right than his rep on an internet message board.

We're also talking about a guy who's known for his memory. Remember the whole thing about Tepper memorizing all of his favorite players stats? I've got a pretty good math brain, but I don't think I could have done that when I was a kid.

But most to the point, we're talking about a guy who has access to all of the team's internal information, and has for a while. He doesn't have to go and do internet searches like us, or even like the guys who don't have official access to the team.

And let's also remember that Tepper has access not just to the data, but to the people as well. If you or I want to talk something over with Ron Rivera, Marty Hurney or Norv Turner, can we do it? Nope, but he can.

Now if our roles were reversed, and I came to you saying that I knew more about what was going on with the team than the person I just described, what would you say to me?

I know a lot of people think everything in the world is on the internet. That's not really true. There's plenty that isn't. And if it really were that easy, why would teams bother to pay analytics guys?

As I said, I’m pulling for him to do a good job.

I’m optimistic.

And, I’ve never said that I’ve ever have more (or even as much) information than anybody in the organization. You might get that vibe, but I’m certainly not openly putting that out there.

I never said everything’s on the Internet. I pointed out Joe Public could compile data to create his own set of analytics on his own time.

I typically don’t troll the Internet collecting data, just to ramble. I take my experiences and I try to apply them to understand the game better. When Tepper openly raved about 1st down passing in print, it struck me as odd.  So, sure, I was curious. I reviewed game trends from ‘17, all of which I documented weekly last season. Not bragging, or being a dick. Just pointing out the backstory.

Sleep easy....I’m not aspiring to work for the Carolina Panthers (lol). But I do try to view the game (and the trends) from as many dimensions as possible. I’m not always right, but I do enjoy the process of learning.

This info is on the internet in multiple locations. Just because you got poetic about a quote doesnt change facts.

We ran on first down at a higher rate than normal. Deal with it. Pay attention to the games. It's right there to see.
