Travelling to ATL for the game?

Heads-up for anyone travelling to Atlanta for this weekend's festivities:

  • With Hurricane Florence looming....
    • lots of hotels are already selling out with people escaping the storm
    • reports of all AirBNB rentals being sold may be true
    • and Florence is expected to turn a bit towards Atlanta, possibly bringing in some rain
  • Expect big crowds pretty much everywhere in general:
    • There's us, of course
    • Music Midtown is taking place in Piedmont Park, featuring lots of bands you may or may not have heard of. It's typically a pretty big deal
    • Braves are playing at home this weekend

So -- lots of traffic, potential rain issues.

And no NoDa beer sold locally. Plan ahead.

You forgot to mention to make sure your insurance is up to date, and to have your personal attorney on retainer  because the drivers in Atlanta (and GA in general) are absolutely terrible and they have no regard for human life or safety and do whatever they want when On the road - like cut across 6 lanes of traffic at a high speed and suddenly slam on brakes.

If there is a state in the union that absolutely needed to be “hands free” on the road it is Georgia.

TRUE.

Reminder: Georgia now is "hands free" with cell phones and driving. You can still talk on your phone, but you absolutely cannot hold the phone in your hand (or support it by any part of your body ie shoulder).   And texting/viewing videos is completely out of the question.

Also - the law allegedly says you can't use full headphones (both the left and right earbud), but you can use a single one. Keep that in mind as you trek down I-85.

I’ve been to Atlanta a few times, most recently a few weeks ago. The driving there is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. 85 around the city ain’t no joke. I know Charlotte has our fair share of awful drivers and traffic but Atlanta is in a whole different universe. There is a reason why you see personal injury attorney advertisements on every single billboard and on TV. You will eventually need one from some moron causing you to wreck.

We went to a braves game and that stretch of interstate near the stadium as we were approaching the exit had like four separate wrecks spread on 2 miles near the stadium

any word as to if the game may be delayed? the game at UNC has been postponed. i imagine safety of the team traveling to Hotlanta may be a legit concern.

as a UNC fan I can say “Thank God” the Heels game was cancelled. They were gonna get curb stomped. That football program is as bad as I can ever remember seeing it.

I would be surprised if the panthers game was affected in anyway due to the storm.

The Braves game(s) vs the Nationals may be moved to a neutral location (due to the Nationals needing to get here, and baseball being played outside). Still TBD what's going to happen.

Panthers are playing indoors, so the game can go on. Just a question of getting the team here and in their hotels, really.

But yeah, around here - learn how to drive or get out of the way.  That being said, Philly drivers are pretty horrible too... .but I think that's more the roads than the people.

I don’t know if “learn how to drive or get out of the way” is a good way to describe Atlanta drivers. Because I didn’t see any good drivers there. I saw a collective group of people who needed to be taught how to drive and could certainly use a few driving classes.

I saw people who were extremely selfish and aggressive drivers, disregarding everyone else on the road and ignoring common traffic laws and just general courtesy.....doing whatever they wanted whenever they wanted even it was illegal. Complete disregard for their surroundings and other people on the road. Pulling out in to intersections in yellow/red to make a turn and holding up oncoming traffic was a common occurance as well was passing people when there was not a lane to pass in like driving in the middle of the road.
