Is Moton a legitimate left tackle in the NFL?

So far so good and you've got to think teams are going to be overloading the right side since we've got Rons favorite eggplant starting over there for the foreseeable future.  Why bother trying to get around Moton when you've got almost a free shot at Cam from the right side on every snap?

Not mentioning an LT during the game is a big, big upgrade. That was his first start in the NFL, against a strong Cowboys front 7 -- he did really well. And he is still learning the position.

I think he's going to be excellent eventually, but we may have a rough game or two and some folks will throw him under the bus and call him bad things, at least here.

He's going to be excellent, though, in time.

Exactly! I think Moton can potentially be an extremely serviceable LT, if not a top 10 LT. However, it should be glaringly obvious our FO needs to quit making decisions such as paying Torrey Smith 5mil this year and start addressing the OL and DE positions aggressively in the off season.

Imagine if we had the DT rotation that we currently do back when Peppers was at his prime! My god! No QB would have survived

The Panthers placed right tackle Daryl Williams (knee) on injured reserve and signed offensive tackle Chris Clark, who has played in 106 career games with 53 starts, Clark most recently was with the Texans where he played in 37 games with 26 starts from 2015-17.

Look for Amini Silatolu to get the first crack at replacing right tackle Daryl Williams, who will undergo knee surgery to repair damage suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday's opener. Silatolu replaced Williams in the win against Dallas. Recently acquired Corey Robinson also could get a look there, but expect the Panthers to be in the market for a tackle. Rookie Ian Thomas will be first up to replace Greg Olsen, who fractured his right foot again and will be evaluated on a monthly basis. With Chris Manhertz the only other TE on the roster the team likely will sign a third player for that position.

If this is how Moton plays at LT in his first season as a starter, without the majority of off-season work at the position, imagine when he gets some real NFL experience under his belt!  Kid could end up being the bookend answer to Gross that we have been waiting for.

As far as RT is concerned, I still hope we make a move before the trade deadline.  One more performance like we just saw, and I believe the coaching staff will have to make a move.  There are some legitimate players sitting as backups right now across the league.  Jason Spriggs lost the starting LT position to David Bakhtiara, and they have Byron Bell and Alex Light on the roster as back-ups.   Zach Banner, the largest man in the NFL, who spent some time here in Carolina is currently backing up RT with the Steelers.  Dennis Kelly is currently a backup RT for the TItans and has about 20 starts to his career.

So far so good. I don't think it's overstating it to say that if this season ends up the way I hope it will, a bit part of that story will be Moton stepping in at left tackle and not just being serviceable, but really neutralizing the other team's best pass rusher. He did it against Gregory and will have another chance to prove it this week against Beasley.

Pretty good chance that happens even if Amini isn't the starter. Even if the others are better than him, they were available for a reason.

Much as I hate to say it, I won't be surprised if teams go after Ryan Kalil to try and generate interior pressure this season as well.

Every play I watched he was running the DE outside and around the pocket so cam could step up. Granted no one has tape on him yet but so far he's a clear upgrade over skater boy

And unless you have an All Pro, Pro Bowl level LT, that's exactly what you want him to do -- deflect, delay and deter. Don't worry about pancakes or stoning the DE, just push the guy out and away long enough for the QB to get his reads and release the ball.

Moton seems to have that down well.
