There is one reason this Cam Newton draw play didn't work.

Actually, no, they haven't been saying anything of the sort.  That was *last* season.  This offseason, the mantra has been to make Cam "the best version of himself he can possibly be."  That doesn't mean taking out the things that make him Cam - which is largely designed runs.

We have to accept that Cam is going to run the ball, on purpose, multiple times per game.  That's who he is.  If you want Cam to suddenly become Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson you're going to be disappointed.

Norv has figured it out.  Stop trying to make Cam something he isn't.  For a guy with his experience to understand that and make it happen is a testament to his flexibility.  The rest of us need to do the same thing.  Understand that our QB is going to do things that other QB's don't do.  And it's ok.

There is only one thing "wrong" with this play, and it's the completely whiffed assignment by a lineman.

This is spot on. I have finally decided to see Cam for what he is and not compare or expect him to be someone else.  He is a unique talent, just go with it.

That's Amini and Manhertz. Two guys that shouldn't be on the roster.

Sad, but true. I hate to say a guy doesn't deserve to keep his job, but both of these guys made it because they have a grasp of the playbook and that's about it. They are college respectable talent, but lousy on the pro level. They haven't transitioned.

The worst part might be that it is our college scouting department might suck so mightily at line work evaluation. We aren't bringing in guys who can even challenge Amini and Manhertz for roster spots and that's pretty damning. It's the thing to blame Rivera for these guys but he's really trying to pick the best options from what he has to choose from.

Well, that wasn't Manhertz's man but, yeah, you would think (or hope) some football instinct would kick in and he'd block the guy that just came free right in front of him instead of letting him have a free run to Cam because "his man" was the linebacker.

Kalil didn't do anything productive either but who knows what Cam could pull off if he gets going..

sigh... 15 other decent teams know how to run the ball without having a Cam Newton. Must be nice.

Not sure what you were looking at. Kalil, chipped block the went next level.

How often has the QB draw actually "worked" like you say, its probably one of our least effective running plays by Cam and has been for years.

And why would we get away from it you ask, well cause all offseason I've heard about how Cam won't be running much this season especially on designed runs, they have been saying this last season also. These runs lead Cam to take unnecessary hits, and if you haven't notice after every Cam run he's usually exhausted and the next play is either an incomplete pass or a run by the RB that goes no where.

Did you watch the game? Cam had like 70 rushing yards in the first half using the read option.
