OT: "Darnold's Debut was Amazing!" - ESPN

15-21 for 121 yards, 1 TD and 1 Interception. 5.7 yards per attempt.

Tell me any other quarterback that has received a review of "amazing" for that stat line. It's almost as if he were an UDFA and he was just picked up off the street yesterday. Dude was the 3rd pick in the draft, that line isn't amazing, it should be expected that he could and would do better.

I like his poise and his footwork but his pick 6 was terrible, their first TD drive was helped along by a BS called catch (and reviewed) on a 3rd down in the red zone. The ground obviously helped him gain possession of the ball.

All in all, I think it's a complete exaggeration of how mediocre his performance was. The only question I have is why? Why would they give him such a stellar review for a well below average stat line and relative performance?

Ignore the stat line. The kid started out with a pick 6 first play and instead of doing a Nathan Peterman he rebounded and played damn near perfect football from there on out. D and Stafford sucking helped them but I thought it was a very impressive showing for the youngest QB to start game 1 in nearly half a century.,.

Stat line is wrong too he had 198 yards and 2 TDs (one of which was an absolutely beautiful pass to Robby Anderson).

Darnold did well. Yes he threw a pick 6 in his first throw but afterwards he only missed 4 passes.

He had 2 TDs, high completion percentage. Sure he didn’t have a lot of yards but considering they ran the ball a lot you can’t expect him to have a lot of pass attempts.

also the Jets have a horrible offensive line. If people on here want to always give Cam excuses because of his offensive line shouldn’t Darnold as well?

    • Bryce did play the best game of his career but it isn't an anomaly as much as a progression in his understanding of the game and ability to translate what he knows to performance on the field. Dalton really helped him see what it takes to throw in NFL sized windows and he is letting it go trusting what he sees. I am enjoying his progress and really appreciating how Canales is bringing him along.
    • Here is where I'm at.  Young had his best day as a pro.  He kept us in the game and didn't lose it for us. GREAT! However, that stat line is a mediocre game for the average NFL QB and this is his best game to date. I'm happy for him to keep playing better, especially if it keeps out of the QB conversation on day 1 in April.  I simply think his ceiling is career backup or low end starter.
