To the people freaking out after the win....

Ron's teams always start slow, this was a decent win.  Remember in 2015, we beat a bad jaguar team in a back and forth game by only 11 points, won by only 7 against a texans team that had ryan mallet starting, then needed a last second INT from Josh Norman to beat the saints who had Luke McCown at QB.  We always start slow, always have under rivera and always will.  I'm willing to see how everything pans out before I freak out.  I think we're a pretty good football team and we will see that this season.

I don't know that you can blame Allen for players getting beat repeatedly.

I'm not blaming Allen. I just know the average forum fan is gonna demand his head if the defense allows a journeyman to have a career day. I actually think Allen is a pretty good DC.

4 of those 12 points were because of Cam. In the post game conference he stated it was his decision to not run a play settle for the field goal.

Under the circumstances (all of them, not just the superficial, naked eye circumstance), he made the right decision.  What he didn't say is that the WRs weren't lined up, and he, being the savvy field general that he is, didn't rush into something that could've been a turnover.  Not a fault of his, but a smart move.

Dems bucs with a actual QB are hard huh?

I think it's common knowledge that they have ridiculous talent on offense. Winston has been inconsistent and the coaching has been subpar. Dirk kicked our ass up and down the field and Fitz played the game of his life. They had a gameplan, Saints defense apparently read their hype all offseason and got dominated. A lot to work on.

I would like to talk crap but you're exactly right. You guys also missed Ingram more than I thought you would as well. The Bucs put it together and were dangerous. I'm hoping they make the stupid choice of starting Winston when he comes back. That would totally be a Bucs move and a terrible idea.

Well when 50% of this board gloats about how “potent and explosive” our offense is going to be all offseason and then flutter against the Cowboys, granted they have a solid defense, and you really wonder why people are questioning things. You can be happy with a win and concerned moving forward at the same time.

This is what I’m talking about, not knowing what’s going on.

If you expected the offense to come out guns blazing in game one, you either haven’t been paying attention or didn’t know what is going on with team injuries.

Norv as pointed out in another post is worlds better than Shula, but it’s hard to see when you’re trying to cover for a terrible o-line.

I'm definitely not freaking out. I'm also not glossing over the challenges we're facing. One game just isn't enough of a sample on which to base firm opinions.

I can tell you what I saw yesterday though...

The pattern did not follow that of the typical late game letdowns that we've had in the past. Those most frequently occurred because the offense hadn't came out flat - and stayed flat - in the second half. That would eventually lead to us needing one desperate drive near the end of the game to get back into it.

Yesterday, we had a solid, sustained drive relatively early in the second half. That wasn't something we're used to seeing. And it's a big reason why we won.

Is Rivera still conservative, and sometimes too conservative? Yes, but that's who he is and that isn't going to change. That said, what has changed is we've got a lot smarter guy doing the adjustments, and not just halftime adjustments. Turner is capable of adjusting on the fly. You saw it yesterday early on when he switched to running Newton more after early struggles getting the run game going.

After only one game, there's a lot we still don't know, and the injuries are a huge concern. But if you think nothing changed after yesterday's game, I'm not sure you're paying attention.

Historically speaking, Turner is also relatively conservative.  In fact, as the game came to a close, he got very conservative (and it was likely him and not Rivera).   And Newton did a lot of his running early in the game.  On the first series, he had three of his 10 or so (non scramble) carries.
