But he’s such a great leader.....SEA/Wilson

I posted this because, like many, I have always thought he got a free pass back then. Sounds like there is some truth to it. And I would put the blame squarely on Carroll.

To be fair, Wilson has flat out carried that team since 2015. It wasn’t his fault they stopped winning big.

I genuinely think that super bowl play was just a result of overthinking it. Like, the whole world think we gonna run it with Marshawn so let’s get cute to outsmart em when really they should have just run it with Marshawn. I don’t think there was nefarious intent or some plot to make Russ the hero, I think the coach just fuged up getting cute.

I dunno, man. If the other team is stacking the box expecting a run and you wanna pass, don't throw it where 9 guys are waiting.

Well, in fairness, it isn't like he isn't skewered in the media enough already, so what would it really change?

The point I was trying to make is it is hard to really feel bad for a group of players and coaches that has a ring in that time period. Whether there were kid gloves applied to Wilson or not, it seems like this whole crowd is whining quite a bit for having won quite a lot. As a fan, I would be pretty disgusted that level of pettiness broke up a dominant team. But Carroll deserves the most blame because he allowed this rift to form and didn't squash it quickly enough.

Reminds me of the Kobe/Shaq breakup in LA but on a wider scale.

I've never bought that Carroll is as good as he gets credit for. They had one really solid draft and built a winning roster but it's felt like a house of cards, and now it's falling.

The story isn’t so much about Wilson being a bad guy, it’s about the coaching staff treating him with an entirely different standard than the rest of the team, beyond what a typical franchise QB receives.

Also the fact players said they felt Wilson would in effect “snitch” to Carroll and players couldn’t trust saying things around him.

Considering Russell Wilson made it to two Super Bowls scrambling for his life, carrying the offense much of the time, I feel like this theory regarding Seattle's decline is more plausible: https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattufford/2018/07/25/malik-mcdowell-atv-injury-bust-fallout/#54e1380e70e0.

However it's not as salacious/entertaining as players shitting on each other and the image of Beast Mode downing a whole bottle of Cognac post SB loss.
