Big blow for Falcons: Keanu Neal out for the season with ACL tear

Neal is strictly a box safety. He can't cover at all, he gets burned routinely and gets a ton of penalties in coverage/down the field. So yeah he helps them in run defense, and he makes plays on the ball, which is solid to have but that's all he can do.

That defense is similar to ours and it runs entirely through the front 7. Seahawks also had a ton of talent in their secondary, hence the legendary couple of years they had but their front 7 was the glue, and same thing in ATL. Trufant is a legit shutdown corner and is easily their best defensive player. And while Jones is nowhere near as good as Colinsworth slobbering over him would make one think, he is solid against the run and one of the best cover LBs in the game right now. Way better and more important than Neal.

This is all 100% false FWIW. Neal doesn’t get a lot of interceptions but he is not bad in coverage at all and he does NOT get penalized a lot. Neal was a pro bowler last year at 22 years old for a reason.

A lot of Falcons fans don’t even think Trufant is the best CB on the team let alone the best defensive player on the team.

Beasley had like 6 sacks last year and is useless against the run and in coverage...

Yeah, that's one thing you and I can agree on... Beasley ain't close to being the best player on that defense.  Hell, he's not even their best DL, I'd give that honor to Grady Jarrett.
