What Cowboys fans are saying

I hate the rings=tier 1 QB argument. Joe Flacco has a SB win. Hell until that defense willed a decrepit Peyton to a 2nd ring, people would say Eli was a better QB than Peyton because 2>1. And that's as far from true as ever. Rings don't automatically equal GOAT QB because the game is played on both sides of the ball.

It's not just the rings. Aikman was a legitimately good QB.

I brought up the difference in their playoff success records though to highlight the fact that Aikman was a clutch player. Romo was anything but.

Look at the numbers of these 2 QB's side by side and tell me who the better QB you think is:

QB 1:

12 seasons as a starter - 61.5% career comp. % - 32,942 yards - 165 TD's - 141 INT's

QB 2:

10 seasons as a starter - 65.3% career comp. % - 34,183 yards - 248 TD's - 117 INT's

Who would you pick?  Not saying Aikman wasnt a great QB, but Top 5 all-time is ridiculous.  He had maybe the greatest supporting cast in modern times.  Romo was a very good QB in his time as well.  It's just that he was stuck with today's Cowboys, and not the Americas Team Cowboys.

I'll take the guy who came up big in the post season, during a time when the defense was favored to a degree that if a WR came back to the huddle with a stab wound in his neck, it was no big deal. Sure, Aikman had the beast that was Irvin (and in those days, he was a beast, even though he's kind of an idiot now), and the #2 RB in the league in Smith (sorry, Barry was always, and will forever be #1 for all time). But, he also had a far tougher rules set to play against, so his numbers, to me are even more impressive. If he had today's rules back then, he easily could have put up much gaudier stats than what you quoted here.

I remember a while back a Cowboy fan I know was trying to smack talk a young guy who's a Panthers fan.

He hit him with "Look man, the Cowboys won five Super Bowls before you were even born".

I raised my eyebrows and gave him a look that said "Did you not catch the irony of what you just bragged about?"

He didn't get it.

The younger guy did, though.

I had a good chuckle.

Yep, Marino is proof of that.

The way I look at it

1  Cam greater than Dak

2. Collectively Panthers skill players better than Cowboys

3. OL is an unknown but the reason we have a fullback, two TEs and Norvs scheme this is not the first questionable Ol he has schemed for

4. Rivera gt Jason Garret

5. offense is not going to be the problem and special teams not a problem

6. it comes down ti the Panthers front 7 that determines this game if the offense doesn’t turn the ball over and they can take away Elliot

if they do, it’s a W. If they don’t, Long day

i believe the Panthers will win easily. Then it becomes dealing with Atlanta and that’s a whole other story

i am not usually optimistic. If this were Shula, different story

You have to admit though that Aikman had a much better supporting cast.  Its easier to look good when you have Emmit Smith, Irvin, and a top 5 defense.  And when they don't leave the team because you can afford to pay them as much as they want (since most of the Cowboys sb wins were pre salary cap).

Yea living in Texas I'm around a bunch of Cowboys fans, strangely they are pretty pessimistic right now. I think the Cowboys have the same problem Panthers fans have with their older white fanbase hesitant to root for a black QB.

I'm so tired of people making everything about race.

Many Cowboys fans have been cynical for years so the mixed response is not surprising. Some of it is due to Jerry Jones, some Jason Garrett, and some with the Romo fallout and other roster changes.

A lot of them don't even like for Troy Aikman to call Cowboys games, which happens pretty often.

The fan YouTube videos are more interesting.

Man... Aikman called a few of our games last year and I can't stand listening to him. He always voiced his points from our opponents perspective. As if we were the 'other' team.

So because the QB is black older white fans are hesitant to root for their team?

So you do know the Cowboys are mostly a black team right?

What you just stated was pure nonsense. Any fan is going to root for their team to win regardless of race. Why else would they be a fan of the team if they didn't like the QB?
