Curtis Samuel had a "procedure to fix an irregular heartbeat"

How does a thing like this get discovered? Would Samuel have reported some sort of symptoms to the trainer, or are players regularly hooked up to EKGs? Is it possible that this is a chronic issue he'd been managing with medicine that they finally decided needed a surgical intervention?

Can’t speak to how players are evaluated, but I have been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.  I brought it up after some chest pain when exercising.  He could have brought it up, if it’s anything similar it is noticable.  That being said an EKG told me all is fine but maybe with a professional athlete they wanted to make sure.  Again, I don’t play sports for a living so who knows.

Sorry but you're not. I'm double boarded in medicine and here's a quick snippet

3 months is a reasonable timeframe to wait in someone already on AC to make sure they stay converted particularly if they are pAF to begin with. If a patient came to me with a history of stroke and documented conversion to sinus post-ablation, though, I wouldn't have any problem taking them off AC and certainly wouldn't start them on it if they weren't already on it.

When I gave medical opinion,  I was corrected by the arm chair cardiologist ;)

Not an armchair cardiologist, just a neurologist that has seen many hundreds of strokes and managed a lot of AF from that side of the picture.
