You picked 2 guys spanning almost 10 years.. Is this what you are proposing as evidence?  If you pay attention to the league you will find that the average career is 3.3 years. This means most do not make it. That isn't a Panthers statistic.

Oh God, you were being serious? LOL!

Two of our top three DEs (Addison and Horton) were undrafted free agents. We signed Horton as a UDFA and we plucked Addison off of the Redskins' practice squad. Addison has over 20 sacks in the past two seasons and has turned himself into a very good starting DE. Horton is a solid rotational guy who has historically been better against the run than rushing the passer, but he showed improved pass rush skills last year.

Obada just made our roster after having fever played football until he was 22 years old. Cox made our roster as a UDFA after spending a year on the practice squad.

The other starting DE on the roster? Oh, just a guy we drafted #2 overall, turned into the best all-around DE in the NFL and who will likely retire #3 in sacks in NFL history.

Guys like Brown and Hall are examples of bad drafting, not poor development. Brown never accomplished anything elsewhere and no one claimed Hall off of waivers. And now we have a second chance with Brown to try to develop him as a coach.

Development of DEs is one of the last things I worry about when it comes to Panthers football.

Daeshon Hall did have promising tape coming out of college. It strikes me hard to believe it's much of a talent or poor drafting issue moreso than his knee injury being far more significant than the Panthers let on.

Reminder Hall was placed on IR last year on a knee injury. We never got full details on that, but have to assume that came into play. That, or Hall simply just never was able to develop and understand how to improve from his deficiencies in college.

I don't think he was a bad pick. Only guy I probably would've taken over him at the time is Derek Rivers without question (still salty the Patriots got another stud), but he still had intriguing measurables and tape.

Either way, not too upset we moved on given how promising Obada and Cox look in the backend. Would rather place the future on them than hope Hall eventually gets it, although it's kind of weird they already gave up on him year 2.

Hall was playing opposite the #1 overall pick in the draft. The opposing offenses were keying on Garrett. When Garrett missed a couple of games and was limited in a few others due to injury in 2016, Hall had a whopping 3.5 sacks.

We drafted a height/weight/speed potential guy and it just didn't work out. Disappointing, but it happens.

Yep.  Said it then and it’s painfully obvious now.  Barnett was and is an actual producer at the second most important position on the field.  I always thought GMan actually wanted Barnett and Kamara in rounds 1 and 2 but who knows. He looks worse and worse by the week.

TBH, I believe I was in the minority here on it, but i really think he flashed some in preseason.  Everything i've read from other huddlers here trashed him and said he was nothing but horrible.  But, I saw him make a move and beat his man consistently.  He seemed to get consistent pressure, he just didn't finish.  I think the decision of whether to keep him or let him go hinged on a factor that had nothing to do with talent or measurables...  it was why his flashes in preseason weren't as noticeable as others like Obada's or Haynes'...  he just seemed aloof.  He seemed indifferent and unaffected, good or bad.  And i always got the impression that the coaches felt that from the jump.  It's the only reason you IR a 3rd round pick with a sudden, mysterious injury that likely wasn't an injury at all...  because he seems uncoachable and/or stagnant in his ability to improve his game.

I think if he looked as good as you thought he wouldn't have cleared waivers. I also think a lot of the times he looked decent, it was likely against players who are also not currently on an NFL roster or are backups at best. I think we just liked the potential of Haynes, Cox, and Obada more and I'm glad we didn't let Hall's past draft status influence that decision. Draft picks and sunk costs. Keep the best football players or the guys you feel will become the best football players.

Yeah, to be clear, i wasn't saying he looked better than the guys we kept or thst we should've kept him, because he didn't and we shouldn't have.  I was just saying i didn't think he looked as bad as many here did.  Even with that heing said, my lasting impression of him was, "meh."  He just didn't move the needle here.  Like i said, there is something about his intangibles and demeanor that are just off-putting, and i think that's why no one but Gettleman (for the sake of his own ego) will give him a look.

I was troubled by the fact that even with a year in thd league, IR'd his rookie year or not, that he was rarely heard from in camp this year.  So, yeah, it was an easy decision and ultimately an atrocious pick.   But, moving forward, i'm really excited about Cox, Haynes, and Obada.

Gettleman seemed to rely on measurables and overlook personality and drive. There were some exceptions to this as I think CMC is very driven and motivated.  Many seem to lack killer instinct.

Gmail didn’t have full control here , so his hand was forced a lot of the time.
