I would like to talk about this Matt Kalil situation

I don't like big cap hits, but I also really don't like huge piles of poo just taking up a roster spot so that we can avoid the huge hit.  If he was average or a little below, then it might be alright, but he adds absolutely nothing to the line and is constantly getting abused. I'd rather just bite the bullet and cut him.

I’m telling ya.... this is about way more than his knee.

I'd agree...and that does worry me a little when it comes to Ryan.  How will he respond to all this?

Obviously Ryan wouldn't deliberately tank his play, but it definitely has the potential to distract him. Plus if Fiz is right about his pull with Richardson (and yeah, it makes sense) then he likely realizes that whatever influence he might have had before is long gone with Tepper in place.

On Matt though, if you've got somebody with a pattern of doing something and repeatedly telling you "it's over now" (or in this case "I'm healthy now") only for you to find out that ain't so, it's pretty easy to sour on that person.

So the cool thing to do is to still bash Hurney and praise Gettleman when he's the one that signed Matt to begin with.

Kalil's $55M contract is far and away the largest contract Gettleman handed out and if JR gave him (DG) the go ahead to get rid of Steve Smith, there is little to no substance in the assumption that DG was forced into signing Kalil.

DG made mutiple heinous decisions before someone finally realized that he was shitty at his job... and when you are an ass as well as a poor employee you usually get canned.

Arent we all glad he gave us Matt as a parting gift.

I'm honestly not that concerned. At this point in his career I really don't think there's much of a drop off between him and Larsen. It's why I was saying that the smart move was to sincerely thank Ryan for his years of service and let him walk this past off-season.

Which would involve paying him 7M sometime. And considering it becomes guaranteed on the 3rd day of 2019if he’s on the roster, or if he is injured, what possible reason would we throw more money down this hole by giving him one more cent.

No it doesn't. A straight pay cut is just that. His salary goes from 7 mil next year to 1 mil. That 6 mil just disappears, never to be seen again. Doesn't happen often, it does happen. Falcons had 2 players take straight pay cuts to stay on the team this year. Like I said Vick did it with the eagles and 60 mil of contracted salary just vanished.

Panthers do it to keep the cap hit from accelerating and having 14.7 mil of dead money against the cap in 2019. Kalil does it because he knows he's getting cut unless he does it and having 1 mil is better than having 0.

Probably have to pay him more than the vet minimum to get him to agree to it, say 2 mil in salary and playing time incentives [hah again] to make up the difference. Still save money and avoid the cap hit for another year, until it's more manageable.

Yeah...Pretty much none of that is true.

Nobody is praising the Kalil signing.  Everybody knew it was a risk when it happened and it's turned into a disaster.

That said, Gettleman still helmed the most successful era in Panthers history (and yes, last season belongs to him too).  Denying that is just stupid, as was the decision to fire him and the dumbass who made that decision.  Thankfully, said dumbass is now permanently (and deservedly) removed.

Hurney still has an awful record at running this team.  The process of reinstalling him permanently was a farce (Richardson's "parting gift") but nothing can change that now. This season will be his first legitimate shot at trying to turn that around.  As much as I doubt Hurney's ability, I hope he succeeds because otherwise the team fails.

Sure... we should only listen to level-headed, unbiased point-a-view such as yours.

Tell you what.... you show me one post, just one, where you say anything at all that isn’t degrading towards Gettleman. I’ve defended and bashed DG. Same with Hurney. A move makes sense or it doesn’t. No matter who made it. But somehow every word you post is a shot to further your one agenda.

 But sure....others are bizarre..lol

“The rule of thumb for me is that if you’re going to spend that kind of money it should be a guy who is entering his prime. ... Matt is 27. ... I watched a ton of tape on that kid. And obviously if you’re going to spend that kind of money on a guy, you’ve got to believe in the talent, you’ve got to believe in the health and you’ve got to believe in the person."

I wish that were more praise of Larsen than it is acknowledgement of how far Ryan has fallen.

He was arguably the best center in the NFL for a lot of years. And while Larsen is decent, nobody would say that about him.

What part of the 7M is guaranteed do you not get. If we don’t cut him after this year, he gets that. Why would he just give away money? He has no incentive to.

Show me the players and contracts that gave away guaranteed money. I’d like to see how this works. Who were these Falcons that did this.

Could you explain WTF this is supposed to be?
