Could Saints be trouble this season

Recommended Posts

A lil bored so I'll give u the run down. A lot of our off-season moves centered around competing with New Orleans.

Breeland: Kept Kamara in check pretty damn well iirc. Sadly it fell through.

D.J Moore, Wright, Smith: The Insurance .... To make sure we aren't stuck EVER again in a game or playoff situation w/ Bersin, Klay and an injured Funchess as our starters.

Donte Jackson: CB to stick w/ Ginn ...

Gaulden: Powerful tackler on first contact. Ironically the same guy we've had problems taking down is the same guy he practiced against in college: Alvin K... Will it translate? We'll see as since we play the Saints at the end of the year. Around the time, Gaulden will have probably earned his starting spot.

CJ Anderson: Can help the line with blocking. Luckily our new last line of defense was the best blocking RB in the league last year. Cam Jordan has always presented a problem for our line.

That said, I could probably manipulate the above players role vs any team. But to answer the question..Hell Yes, the Saints are a problem. They beat us 3 times last year, which is extremely hard to do. Luckily, we play them late in the year...usually around the time when we a VERY hard to beat.

Bottom line: As long as we have a healthy front seven, Cam and Norv, we have a chance to be contenders. Our season is literally in the hands of our Oline and dbs.

Can someone do a breakdown and explain how the Saints have any cap room. Brees costs them like 25 million per and they spend like crazy each and every year it seems like for the past 10 years.

Gilleslee is only on a 1 year deal and it's likely for the vet minimum so a contract that small isn't likely to count against the cap

The salary cap is a myth. There's ways around it if you're smart enough.

From what I understand, Gillislee is just additional depth to cope with the Mark Ingram suspension.

As to the Saints, under Rivera the Panthers have been a defense-centric team, but haven't been very good at defending Sean Payton's offense (heck, they nearly beat us with Luke McCown at the helm). When we've won, it's usually been by shootout. That's not our MO, and obviously the last few times we played them it hasn't been enough.

With a questionable secondary, it's hard to bet on us faring better against Payton. Just gotta hope that Turner is a lot better "shooter" against the Saints defense than Shula was.

Yeah they are better,  they have infused a lot of young talent recently which is something i think gave us the edge over them in the past because i honestly think Rivera has hardly ever outcoached Payton head to head. Its always mostly came down to last minute heroics/great Performance  from Cam in terms of wins.

He'd almost have to be. I think we match up better with them this year than last, but we'll see. It's odd playing them twice in three weeks and I'm not really sure how I feel about that. Could make for awesome TV ratings though.
